If no parent or guardian\u00a0contact is made, the absence is recorded as unexcused truancy.\u00a0 Our automated calling system will make two attempts daily to contact you when your student has been marked absent in one or more classes.\u00a0 If your student believes the absence notation\u00a0was made in error, have the student report to the Main\u00a0Office\u00a0to obtain instructions for a\u00a0verification.\u00a0 Failure to clear an unexcused absence will result in truancy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>**Note that the State of California determines which absences are excused and unexcused,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>not the parent\/guardian.**<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>For specific policy information, please refer to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fremontunified.org\/students-community\/support\/parent-student-handbook\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">FUSD's Parent\/Guardian &amp; Student Handbook<\/a> on School Attendance.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Late Arrival to School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students must check in at the Attendance Office before going to class if they arrive to campus late. An\u00a0admit pass will be issued with the noted arrival time. Parents\/guardians should call, email\u00a0or send a note with the reason for late arrival.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Off Grounds Pass<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To leave campus during the school day, students must bring a note from parent\/guardian to the Main\u00a0Office before school starts.\u00a0 They will be issued an Off Grounds Pass which allows them to leave class early.\u00a0 If a parent\/guardian does not send a notice, they\u00a0must come to the Main\u00a0Office to sign out a student during the school day.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Students will not be released without authorized signatures<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0Parent\/guardian IDs are required.\u00a0 If a student leaves campus without a pass, it will be considered a truancy. Make every effort to schedule doctor's appointments, haircuts, shopping, DMV tests, family vacations, etc. after school hours.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emergency Contacts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Keep information on emergency contacts current.\u00a0 This can be updated in the Infinite Campus Parent portal or by contacting the attendance clerk.\u00a0 Notify attendance clerks\u00a0immediately of changes in home phone\/cell numbers, addresses and emergency contacts (including contacts other than the parent\/guardian). Accurate information will enable us to make contact quickly in the case of an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Illness at School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your student becomes ill at school, you will be notified of the students condition and you must make arrangements to transport your student. Do not take your student off campus without first obtaining an Off Grounds Pass. If student leaves campus without a pass, it will be considered a truancy.<\/p>\n<p>Students must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school after an illness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Medication at School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students who need to take medication at school, must have the required district forms with doctor's signature on file in the office.\u00a0Medication forms must be renewed each year. \u00a0Prescription medication, such as antibiotics or inhalers, and over-the-counter drugs, such as aspirin or Tylenol, may not be carried or administered at school without the proper forms.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fremontunified.org\/about\/instructional-services\/student-support-services\/health-services-overview\/health-forms-medication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Medication At School forms<\/a>\u00a0may be downloaded from the Fremont Unified School District Website. \u00a0Submit the completed forms to the school nurse for processing prior to bringing medication to school.<\/p>\n<p>On the last day of school, please remember to pick up any medication that was stored at school. Medication left behind will be disposed of according to district policy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Checkout From American High School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please plan ahead. \u00a0Before changing schools, parents\/guardians must notify the Attendance Office by completing an Intent To Withdraw form. \u00a0On the last day of attendance at AHS, the student will be provided with a Checkout Sheet to circulate among school staff.\u00a0 The student must return all textbooks and school-issued materials and obtain all required staff signatures.\u00a0 Payment must be made at the Business Office for outstanding debts.\u00a0 After completion of the checkout procedure, a transcript will be provided.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"i5122bp230294oq_module_title\">If You Move...<\/h2>\n<p>If you have moved out of the AHS attendance area but still live in Fremont\u00a0you have the option to apply for an intra-district transfer in order to remain at American.<\/p>\n<p>If you have moved out of Fremont, and still wish to attend classes at American you will\u00a0need to apply for an inter-district transfer.\u00a0 This starts with visiting the school in your new home\u00a0area to obtain the paperwork to begin the transfer\u00a0process.
