{"id":29,"date":"2023-05-08T15:20:21","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T15:20:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fusd.dev.apppresser.com\/american\/bi-literacy-seal\/"},"modified":"2025-02-19T09:49:02","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T17:49:02","slug":"bi-literacy-seal","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fremontunified.org\/american\/students-community\/departments-programs\/academics\/bi-literacy-seal\/","title":{"rendered":"Bi-Literacy Seal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p><!--column: i2a501im2l190--><\/p>\n<p><!--column: ih6a1jypmr7y2dg--><\/p>\n<p><strong>California State Seal of Biliteracy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The State Seal of Biliteracy is an award given\u00a0to graduating high school students who have\u00a0studied and attained proficiency in English and\u00a0one or more languages.\u00a0Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) identifies candidates for this award,\u00a0verifies their language skills, and publicly\u00a0recognizes students for exemplary achievement.<\/p>\n<p>The purposes of the State Seal of Biliteracy are to encourage pupils to study languages, to certify attainment of biliteracy, to provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills, to provide universities with a method to recognize and give academic credit to applicants seeking admission, to prepare pupils with 21st century skills, to recognize and promote\u00a0language instruction in public schools, and to strengthen intergroup relationships, affirm the value of diversity, and honor the multiple cultures and languages of a community (<em>California Education Code [EC]<\/em>\u00a0Section 51460.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fremontunified.org\/american\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/01\/SealofBiLiteracy-300x100.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"906\" height=\"302\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If a student is showing World Language proficiency criteria with a 3 or higher on a World Language AP exam or successful completion of 4 years of study with a gpa of 3.0 or higher, the student will not need to submit any qualifying paperwork.\u00a0 District records will be used to generate a list of qualifying students.<\/p>\n<p>If a student is showing World Language proficiency criteria with a 4 or higher on an IB exam, 600 or higher on an SAT II World Language exam, or proficiency on a county language exam, proof of qualification must be submitted with documentation of the scores.\u00a0 Qualifying scores must be sent to Assistant Principal Navarrete and received second week of March to ensure diplomas correctly reflect this achievement.<\/p>\n<strong>Students whose primary language is not\u00a0English<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents must meet all English Language Proficiency criteria (above) AND attain\u00a0proficiency on the\u00a0English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).\u200b\n<p>For more information from the State of California:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sealofbiliteracy.org\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Seal of Biliteracy Information<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--column: rai12cb2302961m--><\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>California State Seal of Biliteracy The State Seal of Biliteracy is an award given\u00a0to graduating high school students who have\u00a0studied and attained proficiency in English and\u00a0one or more languages.\u00a0Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) identifies candidates for this award,\u00a0verifies their language skills, and publicly\u00a0recognizes students for exemplary achievement.
