Dear Ardenwood Families,<\/span><\/p>

Hope you enjoyed the three-day weekend and stayed dry! \u00a0<\/span>Due to recent storms and continued winds, there are many tree branches on campus. \u00a0Our custodians are doing their best to clear all debris, but please remind your students not to use branches or sticks for play. \u00a0Safety first!<\/span><\/p>

Ardenwood Highlights & Happenings<\/span><\/p>

DRAGONS BASKETBALL\u00a0<\/span>– \u00a0 Last Wednesday, the boy’s and girl\u2019s basketball teams played the Warwick Wizards and split games! \u00a0The boys won decidedly and the girls showed grit with a great comeback but lost at the buzzer! \u00a0Next up, our boys and girls teams play the Brookvale Mustangs this Wednesday, here at Ardenwood. Come out and cheer on our Dragons!<\/span><\/p>

ASSEMBLIES & PRESENTATIONS\u00a0<\/span>– \u00a0It\u2019s going to be a busy week for our Dragons. \u00a0On Tuesday, first graders will have Naturalist Presentations, on Wednesday, third graders will attend the Live Animal Assembly and on Thursday, second graders will take a walk through the rock museum. \u00a0Thanks to the grade level teaching teams for bringing these opportunities to our students!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS\u00a0<\/span>– Next week<\/span>\u00a0(February \u00a026 – March 1)<\/span>\u00a0is our<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>READ Across America\u00a0<\/span>celebration with lots of reading and spirit days too! \u00a0As part of this exciting event, students will also have the chance to raise funds for our library through our\u00a0<\/span>Read-a-Thon program (February 19 – March 4)<\/span>. \u00a0For more information, please visit: \u00a0<\/span>Ardenwood Read-a-Thon<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

REUSABLE LUNCHWARE PROGRAM<\/span>\u00a0– As you may know, several FUSD schools have already transitioned to reusable lunch ware. \u00a0In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and become more environmentally friendly, Ardenwood will be doing the same. \u00a0Currently, we are scheduled to transition on\u00a0<\/span>Monday, February 26th<\/span>\u00a0and supporting this effort, students will attend assemblies on this same date. \u00a0For more information, please visit<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Reusable Trays and Utensils Pilot Program<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

ELPAC\u00a0<\/span>– Beginning this \u00a0month, students who are designated as English Learners will be administered the English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC). \u00a0 This test which includes four domains, reading, writing, speaking and listening, is used to d<\/span>etermine the English proficiency of students whose primary language is any language other than English<\/span>. \u00a0Please feel free to email me with any questions.<\/span><\/p>

Founders\u2019 Day Celebration –\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0This event has been rescheduled to\u00a0<\/span>Tuesday, March 5th<\/span>. \u00a0Please join us in the school library for light refreshments and a celebration of the history of the PTA. \u00a0We will also be celebrating our dedicated volunteers. \u00a0If you’re curious about how PTA works and want to get involved, Founders\u2019 Day is a great chance to meet officers, chairs and volunteers and hear about PTA!<\/span><\/p>

Volunteer for Next Year\u2019s PTA Board\u00a0<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>The PTA is looking for parents eager to help during the upcoming 2024-25 school year. Whether you’re looking to take on a big role or contribute in smaller ways, we need you! \u00a0No experience? No problem! We\u2019re a small but mighty team, and we encourage and support each other every step of the way. See the flier below or visit the\u00a0<\/span>PTA website for more info<\/span><\/a><\/span>. \u00a0 Audition video entries are due by\u00a0<\/span>Monday, March 25, 2024. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Final on-stage performances will be on\u00a0<\/span>Thursday, May 2, 2024.<\/span>\u00a0 On\u00a0<\/span>Friday, March 8th, at 3 pm,<\/span>\u00a0the Talent Show Committee will host auditions for our student emcees. \u00a0Auditions are open to 4th & 5th graders and the sign up sheet will be just outside the nurse\u2019s station every day after school!<\/span><\/p>

Mark Your Calendars: Spring Festival is Coming to Ardenwood –\u00a0<\/span>Save the date! \u00a0Our PTA is thrilled to announce that our Spring Festival is blooming into Ardenwood on\u00a0<\/span>Friday, April 26th, from 5-7pm<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Thanks to the incredible generosity of an Ardenwood parent and their supportive employer, we will be hosting an evening of fun, food, and treats for all our students and families. Stay tuned for more exciting details to come.<\/span><\/p>

School Rule Reminders<\/span><\/p>

START OF THE SCHOOL DAY<\/span>\u00a0–\u00a0<\/span>If your student arrives at school before 8:14 am, please remain with them until the 8:14 am bell rings and then they may proceed to the playground (students only, no parents or guardians should come onto campus).\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0An exception for students who come to school and eat breakfast–they may enter campus at 8:05 am but must head straight to the MPR. They should eat breakfast, dispose of their trash and remain in the MPR until 8:14 am. \u00a0At that time, students may proceed to the playground where staff is supervising until the 8:24 am bell. \u00a0 When the bell rings, students should walk to their line up location. \u00a0<\/span>For your review, here again is our\u00a0<\/span>Rainy Day Procedure<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>
<\/span>

DROP OFFS<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>– Teachers and staff are focused on supporting our 600+ Dragons each and every day.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0Consequently,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>we ask that you refrain from dropping off lunches, water bottles and other items for delivery to students.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0 A reminder\u2013all Dragons have access to free breakfast and lunch as well as water fountains here on campus\u2013we recently had a new water bottle filling station installed! \u00a0If your child forgets their homework, please have them check-in with their teacher regarding late submission. \u00a0Of course, if you need to drop off eyeglasses or any type of medication for your student, please let us know as we will certainly make exceptions for these items. \u00a0Please support our Dragons in following our Ardenwood school rule of being responsible. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

TRAFFIC SAFETY<\/span>\u00a0 –\u00a0<\/span>Thanks to all families who have helped us increase safety on campus by focusing on traffic rules. \u00a0However, recently, we have noticed an uptick in unsafe driving and parking behaviors: \u00a0illegal U-turns, parking in red zones and crosswalks, blocking driveways, double parking and speeding. \u00a0These driving behaviors make it\u00a0<\/span>unsafe\u00a0<\/span>for our students, families, teachers and staff and are also discourteous to school neighbors. \u00a0Please follow traffic safety rules and comply with regulations.<\/span>\u00a0 Local authorities continue to visit our campus regularly to support us in this area and in some cases, they issue traffic citations.<\/span><\/p>
<\/span>

Finally, please continue to collaborate with us and review our\u00a0<\/span>school rules<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0with your Dragons. We appreciate your support! \u00a0Have a great week and Go Dragons!<\/span><\/p>
