font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">To provide opportunities for children to explore their thoughts and feelings and to learn to respect those of others<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">To assist parents in problem-solving and understanding the dynamics of child growth and development<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">To provide help with behavior change and crisis intervention as needed<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>Counseling supports students and families:<\/b><\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meeting with children <\/span><b>individually <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and in<\/span><b> small groups<\/b><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conducting group and classroom activities in <\/span><b>self-concept, communication, emotional regulation, decision-making, social skills, coping skills, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc.<\/span><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Serving as a resource person to teachers and parents<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Providing extra support to children in times of personal crisis<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Referring to community agencies as needed<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>Elementary School Counselors work with:<\/b><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>Children who are &#8230;<\/b><\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Overly worried or anxious about grades<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Having difficulties making or maintaining friendships<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Exhibiting school\/classroom behaviors that have become a barrier to their learning<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Feeling angry or sad much of the time without knowing why or what to do with those feelings<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Experiencing major life changes like the birth of a sibling, illness of a family member, separation, divorce, or remarriage of parents.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>Parents who &#8230;<\/b><\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Notice sudden changes in their child\u2019s behavior or with school performance<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Are concerned about family communication<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Are concerned about the effects of divorce or separation on their children<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;
