{"id":7,"date":"2023-05-08T15:28:42","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T15:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fusd.dev.apppresser.com\/grimmer\/school-counseling-services\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T11:02:30","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T18:02:30","slug":"school-counseling-services","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fremontunified.org\/grimmer\/students-community\/programs-services\/school-counseling-services\/","title":{"rendered":"School Counseling Services"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><!--column: i2a501im2l190--><\/p>\r\n<p><!--column: col1--><\/p>\r\n<p><!--column: oi7br2vy6t1w8a--><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Why Elementary School Counseling?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>The school counseling program teaches knowledge, attitudes, and skills students need to become healthy, competent, and confident learners.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>The counselor\u00a0works as a team with students, parents and community to create a caring atmosphere to support children's needs\u00a0through prevention, early identification and intervention which serves as the foundation for future success.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Elementary School Counselors:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Implement\u00a0classroom guidance<\/strong>\u00a0focusing on understanding of self and others, coping strategies, peer relationships and social skills, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, study skills and career awareness.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Provide individual and small group counseling<\/strong>\u00a0dealing with self-image and self esteem, personal adjustment, family issues, interpersonal concerns, academic development, behavior management, peer facilitation and peer mediation.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Provide assessment<\/strong>\u00a0by helping students identify their skills, abilities, achievements and interests through counseling and guidance activities and interpretation of standardized tests.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Work with specialized populations<\/strong>\u00a0and needs that require special attention, such as culturally diverse populations and students with varying abilities.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Provide consultation<\/strong>\u00a0with teachers, administrators, school psychologists and outside agencies concerning the welfare of the students.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Make appropriate referrals<\/strong>\u00a0for special services for students and families within the school and community.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Communicate and exchange information<\/strong>\u00a0with parents\/guardians by way of conferences, parent education workshops and newsletters.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Participate<\/strong>\u00a0as members of the school improvement and interdisciplinary teams and work as liaisons with parent and teacher organizations.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Individual and Group Counseling Sessions are:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Short-term between 6-10 weeks<\/li>\r\n<li>Run during school hours<\/li>\r\n<li>Open to all students<\/li>\r\n<li>Goal\/skill-centered<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>How Does a Student See the Counselor?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Administrative\/teacher referral<\/li>\r\n<li>Student self-referral<\/li>\r\n<li>Parent\/guardian referral<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why Elementary School Counseling?
