Dear Hopkins Families,

We are thankful for all of our teachers who spent time to review HAWKON values and school-wide expectations for the many spaces that we share on campus. And a shout-out to all of our staff members in and out of the classroom for supporting the shared focus on asset-based communication. We are seeing more positivity across school, and when a mistake is made, there is thoughtful reflection on how to course correct and why.\u00a0

Racial Solidarity Commitment<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and Upstander Intervention<\/strong>: History teachers will be guiding students to understand our Racial Solidarity Commitment at the start of this week. Then students will go over the 5 D’s of Upstander Intervention in their 5 other classes. The Racial Solidarity statement was created 2 years ago by a group of student volunteers on our Racial Solidarity Leadership team, in response to racist behaviors on campus. Our School Site Council edited it for length and approved the document last year. This year begins the full implementation — reviewing the commitment in addition to giving students tools to respond when they witness harassment\/bullying.\u00a0

Girls Volleyball Team A & B<\/strong>: Congratulations to our 14 students who were selected for Team A, and 14 selected for Team B. All students selected and their parents\/guardians have been notified via email, along with practice information, required physical evaluation document, and family meeting time. Names will be posted on our Gym on Monday.\u00a0

Hopkins Spotlight @ 9\/10 Board Meeting<\/strong>: It’s our turn to showcase school highlights at the board meeting this Wednesday, 9\/10. Come to the District Office’s Board Room, located @ 4210 Technology Dr, to support Hopkins at 6 PM. Or\u00a0watch our spotlight from home<\/a>.

<\/strong>Bike Mobile<\/strong>: Need repairs on your bicycles? Alameda County’s Bike Mobile team is returning to Hopkins this Friday, 9\/12, 2:30-5 PM. We also\u00a0need 2 volunteer helpers<\/strong> for the event. Please sign up using the Volunteer List below.

Religious Observances<\/strong>: We understand that for Rosh Hashanah (9\/22-9\/24) and Yom Kippur (10\/1-10\/2), students may be out of school in observance of the Jewish holidays. Parents\/guardians, please communicate with our attendance clerk Ms. Yung (syung@fusdk12.net)\u00a0<\/span>so that we mark the absences as excused.\u00a0

Math Competitions:<\/strong> Thanks to our Parent-Faculty Association (PFA)’s generous funding support, we are once again hosting 3 competitions for interested Hopkins students:\u00a0CML (Continental Mathematics League), MathCounts, and the AMC8 (American Mathematics Competition). Students in accelerated math classes will participate automatically. Students in grade-level math and 6th graders will sign up to participate through their math teachers. Please communicate with your math teacher directly to sign up. If you have general questions about the competitions, please email our math teacher and coordinator Ms. Peta Robinson (probinson@fusdk12.net).\u00a0<\/span><\/span>

Counselors’ Class Presentations:\u00a0<\/strong>Our counseling team visits all students through their English class through August and September. Students receive information on what school counselors can help with, and how to request a meeting. Parents may also request a meeting with their child’s school counselor by calling (510-656-3900 and extension below) or emailing their grade-level counselor:\u00a0
