Horner Vision Statement<\/strong><\/p>\r\n We at Horner Middle School, envision a future in which every student receives an effective, equitable, and engaging education that allows them to reach their full and unique potential.<\/p>\r\n Horner Mission Statement<\/strong><\/p>\r\n At Horner Middle School our mission is to provide students with the Knowledge, Tools, and Skills they need to master content standards, make effective decisions, and collaborate with others, which will enable them to be successful lifelong learners.<\/p>\r\n Knowledge, Tools, Skills = Master, Make, Collaborate!<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Our focus is to provide a safe, purposeful, caring and challenging environment where students can accomplish the following:<\/p>\r\n \u2022 Excel academically.<\/p>\r\n \u2022 Develop effective study habits and social skills.<\/p>\r\n \u2022 Develop self-discipline and learn how to make effective decisions.<\/p>\r\n \u2022 Learn to appreciate and value the differences in others, to respect others’ rights, and to treat everyone with dignity.<\/p>\r\n Description of the School Community<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Horner Middle School is one of five Junior Highs in the Fremont Unified School District. Horner transitioned from a Junior High School into a Middle School during the 2020-2021 school year.\u00a0Horner is part of the Irvington Attendance area, and students will attend Irvington High School. Students from Green Elementary School, Grimmer Elementary School, Hirsch Elementary School, Leitch Elementary School, Warm Springs Elementary School and Weibel Elementary School will attend Horner.<\/p>\r\n The student population is approximately 1,800 with grade spans in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. The school has a rich history that spans over fifty years.<\/p>\r\n Horner is equipped with modern science labs and a well maintained library. During the 2019- 2020 school year, construction began with a new campus which includes three new buildings, including a technology FLEX Lab, and new state of the art library. Students and staff will begin transitioning to the new buildings in August of 2020.<\/p>\r\n The school curriculum includes core curriculum courses in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies. All students have a Physical Education course along with electives in the following disciplines: Spanish, Chorus, Band, Leadership, Journalism, Drama, Technology, and Arts and Crafts. Honors classes are provided for English and Science along with accelerated Math classes and regular pathways Math classes.<\/p>\r\n Horner has an outstanding activities program to help develop social skills. The ethnic diversity among students is integrated into all aspects of school life.
