Dear Fremont Unified Community,

In this season of gratitude, I would be remiss not to share my sincere appreciation to the voters of Fremont for approving Measure M this November with nearly 65% voting YES. The $919 million in additional funding will ensure safe, healthy, and inspiring learning facilities for generations of Fremont youth. We are committed to being good stewards of these funds and the community’s trust.

At their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday (Nov 20), the Board got their first look at the budget reduction scenarios informed by your input in October. If you are interested, a video of the discussion is available here. The Board and district leadership are dedicated to engaging in meaningful discussions about becoming a more efficient organization while safeguarding the heart of what makes FUSD special. By leaning on our collective resilience and exploring opportunities to secure ongoing funding, FUSD is confident it can navigate these challenges and emerge stronger together. After reviewing the reduction scenarios, please visit the re-opened budget input portal and provide specific feedback.

Fremont Unified remains hopeful about the future despite challenges. May this time bring you moments of reflection, warmth, and celebration. Thank you for your continued commitment.

In partnership, Superintendent Burmeister

This month, I was an invited guest of the Hirsch Elementary PTA, which hosted an inspiring and celebratory fall music festival. Over the next several weeks, many of our schools will host musical exhibitions highlighting the dedicated work of our performing arts teachers and volunteers. Thanks to the commitment of the Board, California Prop 28 funds, the generous support of donors and the Fremont Education Foundations, and community partners like Music for Minors, Fremont students continue to enjoy the benefits of music and performing arts even amidst difficult budgetary constraints. In this season of Thanksgiving, we give thanks to those who continue to protect and promote the value of music.

FUSD will have limited staffing and availability on November 25 & 26, which are non-school days for students.
