Hello from the School Counselor<\/strong><\/p>\n

My name is McKenzie Ramer\u00a0and I am excited rejoin FUSD and the Niles community\u00a0for the 22\/23\u00a0school year! Born and raised in Fremont, I feel honored to\u00a0serve students and families in my hometown. I attended Chadbourne, Hopkins and Mission San Jose before pursuing my B.S. in Business Administration at\u00a0Cal Poly San Luis Obispo\u00a0and M.A. in Counseling & Guidance (including the PPS School Counseling Credential) at San Jose State University. This will be my second year working with the Niles community. If we haven’t already met, I would love to get to know you and your student(s). Please don’t be a stranger!<\/p>\n

Full-Time School Counselor<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 21\/22 school year was the first year<\/em> that Niles Elementary had\u00a0a full-time school counselor on staff! This means that Niles’ students and families gained access to a school counselor\u00a0five days a week, Monday-Friday.<\/p>\n

After returning from spring break (4\/17)\u00a0my schedule will be Tuesday-Friday through the end of the school 22\/23 year because I am taking a partial leave of absence.\u00a0Please visit my “Contact Information” page to learn about different ways to get in touch with me.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

My Counseling Philosophy<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am a strong believer in\u00a0intentional collaboration between parents\/guardians, teachers, school staff and the school counselor to work as a team to support students’ well-being and academic success. I welcome open communication lines with stakeholders (that respect counselor confidentiality) so we can partner together to provide\u00a0social, emotional and academic support to students, both at school and at home.<\/p>\n

Questions About Gender Identity<\/h2>\n

People tend to use the terms \"sex\" and \"gender\" interchangeably. But, while connected, the two terms are not equivalent. Generally, we assign a newborn's sex as either male or female based on the baby's genitals.
