Hello Families,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n
Spring break is coming soon! I would like to take a moment to emphasize the importance of consistent school attendance. With busy family schedules, it can be tempting to take extra days off, but every school day truly counts! Regular attendance is key to student success. Each day in the classroom provides valuable learning experiences that build upon one another. When students miss school, they miss opportunities to engage in lessons, collaborate with peers, and develop essential skills. Even occasional absences can add up and impact academic progress.<\/span>

The year certainly goes by fast as we have less than 40 days of school left! \u00a0We appreciate all the families that completed their verification of residency in a timely manner. \u00a0This helps schools to plan ahead for the next school year. \u00a0As we approach the final stretch of the school year, I encourage families to stay involved\u2014whether by attending upcoming events, supporting classroom activities, or simply having conversations with your child about their learning. Together, we can make these last few months both meaningful and memorable!<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The Attendance Imperative:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong>
<\/strong>Attending school regularly is essential to students gaining the academic, social and emotional skills they need to thrive. Chronic absence, no matter its cause, has real life consequences for students, families and society as a whole. Research shows starting as early as preschool and kindergarten, chronic absence\u2014missing 10% of the academic year\u2014can leave third graders unable to read proficiently, sixth graders struggling with coursework and high school students off track for graduation. \u00a0<\/span>Each day a child misses school, the school loses around $65 per day\/per child in state fundings.<\/span><\/u><\/strong>\r\n<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n

Hi Parents\/Caregivers,<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I hope you are all well. First, I wanted to thank those of you who showed up for the virtual parent workshop presented by the Irvington Elementary Counselor team and local organization\u00a0<\/span>Basant Now<\/span><\/a><\/span>. I hope you learned something new or helpful! If you have lingering questions about how to best set your child up for success, please don\u2019t hesitate to reach out to me for more resources and information.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Second, there is an upcoming parent workshop hosted by FUSD Social Workers. Please see the linked flyer\u00a0<\/span>here<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0for more information. The wellness workshop is planned for May 12th and is about\u00a0<\/span>Screen Time & Mental Health<\/span><\/a><\/span>. If this is something that interests you, please join for a great evening of valuable information!<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Last, as we enter the final few months of this school year, I want to acknowledge how hard all the students have been working with regard to their classes and any extracurriculars they may be enjoying. As we get closer to spring break and summer, students may start to pull back from school but it is really important they keep persevering and finish strong.\u00a0<\/span>Perseverance<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0is a great skill for students to learn and practice so that they are better able to push through difficult, challenging, or tedious circumstances in the future (whether that\u2019s in high school, college, or in their career). Now is a great time to check in with your student(s) about how they\u2019re feeling with the end of the school year approaching and brainstorm (together) ways to stay motivated moving forward.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
