Welcome to Centerville

Walt Lewis

Welcome to Centerville Middle School.   Centerville has a long and distinguished history and I am honored to be a part of the Centerville family.

As a member of the Centerville family, you may be interested in some information about me.  I started my career as a teacher at the elementary level.   I received my undergraduate degree from CSU, Chico, and my teaching credential from CSU, East Bay.  My master’s degree in educational leadership is from UNC, Chapel Hill.  I’ve been an administrator for a total of 21 years in the Elementary School, Middle School, and District Office levels and now have over twenty-six years in education.  I am extremely grateful to be doing a job I really love.  My favorite thing to do on campus is to spend time in classrooms watching students learn, and getting to know the students, staff, and parents.

On a personal note, I’m an avid cyclist.  I also enjoy hiking with my dog through all of the natural areas in California.  Although I’m a California native, early in my career, my family and I moved to North Carolina.  After 11 years in NC, we moved back to California and we have lived in the Bay Area since 2007.  My favorite sport to watch is college basketball, and I’m an avid UNC, Chapel Hill fan (my alma mater).  Go Heels!

This is going to be an exciting year for our Mustangs.  My goal at Centerville is to help prepare every student on their journey toward college and career readiness.  We need to ensure every student has relevant, engaging, and meaningful lessons and are prepared for high school and beyond.  I’m also a firm believer that we need to provide time and support for every student to meet standards in all courses.  We will continue to grow our intervention program to not only meet the needs of our struggling students but students that may need extra challenges as well.

Although academics are important, student success is dependent upon every student feeling connected and safe at school.  At Centerville, teachers and staff members focus on developing caring and supportive relationships. I want to ensure every student knows they matter and they are valued. The middle school years are a time of exploration and I encourage students to try new things and get involved in the many clubs or sports available. Students that are involved in a school are more likely to feel connected and more likely to be successful.

Your involvement as parents and guardians and as a vital member of your child’s educational team is essential.  I encourage parents and guardians to get involved through the PTSA and by taking advantage of the many volunteer opportunities.  I encourage you to keep the lines of communication open with teachers, staff members, and administrators.  If you have a question, concern, or compliment, please let me know.

I would like to thank each of you for entrusting your best and brightest to us each and every day.  I look forward to a great  school year.  We will have an exciting and successful year.  We are so glad you are here.

Go Mustangs!

About Centerville

The Centerville Middle School property on Fremont Boulevard has served as a place of learning since Centerville School (established in 1859) moved there as a one-room schoolhouse in 1881.

The mission of our school is to ensure that each student holds the skills needed to strategically problem solve and is prepared to contribute and thrive in the 21st century work force. Each student will demonstrate mastery of common core standards through on-going, authentic and varying assessments. We will ensure this by means of real-world application and through a multi-faceted system of support.
