Hopkins Principal’s Newsletter 9/15/2025

Dear Hopkins Families,

Thank you to our Leadership teacher Madame Chabot and Band/Orchestra teacher Mr. Sarten for preparing Leadership, ASB students, and string quartet performers for our Hopkins Spotlight at last Wednesday’s School Board meeting. We are so proud of the school spirit and talent that our students showcased. Also a big thank you to our PFA President Ms. Anand for highlighting all of the wonderful programs and events that PFA has brought to our students and community. We deeply appreciate all of our students, families, and staff who packed the room. We HAWK ON~

Home Game Attendance – Hawk Spirit Award: With 5-Star’s help, starting this year we are adding another award to celebrate students. Our Hawk Spirit Award will be acknowledging students who attend school events such as tomorrow’ (9/16) first Girls Volleyball home game @ MUR @ 3 PM and/or make good decisions such as helping to keep their lunch areas clean. Bring your school ID to the game for priority entry. Earn spirit points and cheer on our athletes! Students with high spirit points will be chosen randomly, announced in the Hawk Bulletin, and win prizes!

Away Games: If you are attending sporting events as spectators at other FUSD schools, please make sure you go with a supervising adult so that you are able to enter the events. The supervising adult is responsible for the student’s positive behavior and safety.

Talent Show Audition Location Change: Due to our Volleyball home game at the MUR, auditions will take place in our C-nest on Tuesday, 9/16, 2:30-3:30 PM. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Boteilho ([email protected]).

ID Photo Makeup on Friday, 9/19: Our ID photo makeup day is Friday, 9/19. This is only open to students who did not get their photo IDs on Maze Day or students who bought/are buying photo packets but are not happy with the current photo. ID photo makeups will take place in the C-nest during history class.

Hawk Bulletin Access on Website: Just a friendly reminder that you can watch our Hawk Bulletin on our website every day. It is available by 8:15 AM. You can also re-watch bulletins from the past. Lots are happening @ Hopkins, and it’s a great way to stay informed and find out about clubs, events, and programs. For example, intramural basketball, soccer, and flag football signups are happening this week!
Balancing Class Sizes/Possible Schedule Changes: We started the year with many core classes that exceeded the class size goal of 31-33. Now that our total enrollment is stabilized, we are working to balance class enrollments so that we have fewer classes that are over 33. Ultimately, a smaller class size is our goal as it benefits all members of the classroom community — students receive more attention and feedback, teachers less overwhelmed. However, this means that we may need to change some students’ schedules so that we can achieve the goal of a smaller class size. Thank you in advance for understanding. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to your student’s grade-level assistant principal or myself:School Site Council Parent Representatives: The following parents have been elected as the grade-level parent representatives at our School Site Council this year. The meetings are Thursdays (10/2, 2/5, 3/12, 4/16, and 5/21), 2:40-3:40 PM @ our C-Nest. Meetings are open to all Hopkins parents/guardians and students to attend, even if you are not a representative. Congratulations to the following Parent Representatives:
  • 6th Grade – Katie Chin
  • 7th Grade – Lourdes Castro
  • 8th Grade – Mary Vattavayalil
School Site Council Student Representatives: Students are learning about the School Site Council’s functions and voting process in their history classes. They have received a link to their grade-level voting guide that has all of the candidates’ statements, as well as a link to cast their votes. Students must cast their votes by the end of Wednesday, 9/24. Information has been sent to their FUSD email accounts.

PFA Meeting on Zoom: Please join our PFA meeting on Zoom this Wednesday, 9/17, at 7 PM. Extracurricular Math Competitions: Thanks to our Parent-Faculty Association (PFA)’s generous funding support, we are once again hosting 3 competitions for interested Hopkins students: CML (Continental Mathematics League), MathCounts, and the AMC8 (American Mathematics Competition). Students in accelerated math classes will participate automatically. Students in grade-level math and 6th graders will sign up to participate through their math teachers. Please communicate with your math teacher directly to sign up. This week is the last week to sign up if you are interested. If you have general questions about the competitions, please email our math teacher and coordinator Ms. Peta Robinson ([email protected]).
