Hopkins Principal’s Newsletter 10/5/2025
October 5, 2025
Dear Hopkins Families,
We would like to give a special shout-out to our dedicated custodial team: Mr. Wayne Moller, Mr. Selvin Diaz, Ms. Guadalupe Campos, Mr. Scott Amos, and Ms. Adriana Leyva. As we have increased student activities during and after school, our small team continues to take care of our facilities with the same commitment. Thank you for what you do!
Coffee with Counselors Presentation: Thank you to the parents/guardians who were able to attend our Coffee with Counselors in the past week. Please see the presentation deck for the resources discussed during our gathering.
Emergency Protocols: Our 5th period teachers are giving students an overview of emergency protocols, such as the differences between Shelter-in-Place, Lockdown, and Evacuation, as well as information about Say Something, an anonymous reporting system for students and families to report safety concerns. We encourage families to also go over the slides at home with students. Knowledge is power. Families’ familiarity with these different situations helps maintain calm when responding to an emergency.Â
Library Closure After School on Wednesday, 10/8: The Library will be closed after school on Wednesday, 10/8, due to the monthly librarians meeting. Please make sure to make arrangements for student pick-ups accordingly.
Science Bowl Tryouts on Friday, 10/10, 2:40-4 PM @ MUR: Interested students must sign up to participate. Please see the flyer attached.Â
After-school Arts Workshops: Starting in November, we will be offering the following 3 arts workshops to Hopkins students. If you are interested, please sign up here by the end of Friday, 10/17. Priority enrollment will go to students in Special Education programs, ELD program, 6th graders, and 7th/8th graders who current do not have an arts elective. We will confirm workshop enrollment in the week after 10/17.
First Social – Hawk-O-Lantern: Friday, October 17, is our first Social of the year. Students have received a survey from assistant principal Mrs. Moore to RSVP if they plan to attend. Please complete this survey to help our planning committee coordinate for enough food and treats!
Hopkins Social – Trick-or-Treating Tables:Â New this year! The PFA would like to invite families to decorate a table during the social for students to enjoy Trick-or-Treating! Â If you are willing and interested to decorate a table and can set-up at 3:15 PM and take down by 5:30 PM on Friday, October 17 (Date of our Social), please sign up!
Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences: Families are starting to receive invitations from our teachers to sign up for parent-student-teacher conferences on Thursday, 10/23, 1:30-7:30 PM and Friday, 10/24, 8:15-2:15 PM. Priority invitations are going out to families whose students need a little extra support (those who have earned a C, D, or F in class, Multilingual Learners, and students with IEPs).Â
AC Transit Updates: Students can ride without passes through early October – Because of Student Transit Passes’ production delays, AC Transit extended the period of allowing students to ride the bus without a pass through early October. Students should tell bus drivers: “I’m waiting for my Student Transit Pass to be delivered. AC Transit said that because of delays in pass production, students can ride the bus without passes through early October.” If you hear of bus drivers not honoring this, please collect their badge number or the bus route, time, and direction of travel and report the incident to AC Transit. (If students do have a working pass, they should continue tapping it to ride.)
