Hopkins Principal’s Newsletter 1/10/2025

Dear Hopkins Families,

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season with lots of time for family, food, and fun. We are thrilled to be welcoming students to the Spring semester and continuing to support their growth as your partners.

School Connectedness: Based on our student survey from December 2024, completed by 1321 students, 84% of our students felt that they could talk with at least one adult on campus about a problem/issue. This is a 7% increase from last year's data, meaning that 197 more students this year felt connected with our staff by December. It is amazing progress! I am deeply thankful for our staff's commitment to strengthening a sense of community with students. We will continue to analyze data as a staff and as a community and plan next steps that will move us upward even more.

  • If you are interested in being a part of these school planning conversations, join our School Site Council meetings which is always open to the public. The next meeting is Thursday, February 13, 2:40-3:40 PM @ C-nest

Talent Show: Hopkins' got talent! Come check out student performances today (Friday, 1/10) at 7 PM @ MUR -- doors open at 6:45 PM. Tickets are $5/person.

Course Registration for Next Year (2025-2026): Very soon we will be visiting classrooms to talk with students about course selections for the next school year. 8th graders will meet with Mission San Jose High School counselors in math classes on 2/5. Please see here to save important dates related to registration for 25-26.

  • 8th grade families: If your student would like to attend your home attendance area high school that is not Mission San Jose, please contact the school's office regarding their registration packets. We strongly recommend that you attend the high school's open house for more information. Our 8th grade counselor Ms. Kim (amaliakim@fusdk12.net) is always a resource as well.
  • Intradistrict transfer families: If your student is currently attending Hopkins through an intra-district transfer, please be on the lookout for your Continuing Intra-district Transfer link that will be sent to you the week of February 3.

Help Us Keep Community Safe: We are noticing more aggressive driving during drop-off and pick-up times from cars entering and exiting our front loop. Thank you for being patient and careful -- safety is our priority, and we need your help! It takes a village.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

  • FUSD Student Job & Internship Fair, Feb 20: Although this is geared towards high school students, it is benefitial to check out potential career interests for students as a family. Please see here for details.
  • Calling All Artists! The staff at Hopkins invites you to create an original design that displays the qualities represented by a Hopkins Hawk: Honest, Assertive, Wise, Kind, On the Rise, and Never Give Up.  As an artist, you may decide whether you represent one or more of the qualities.  Be creative.  The chosen design will be displayed as a mural on one of our school walls.  To learn which wall will be transformed, look around campus for the blue tape!  Your work could be featured!
