Hopkins Principal’s Newsletter – 10/7/2024
October 7, 2024
Dear Hopkins Students and Families,
A special thank you goes out to our club advisors: Ms. Boteilho, Ms. Das, Ms. Robinson, Ms. Matar, Ms. Guan, Maestra Perez, Madame Chabot, Ms. J. Kang, Ms. Seemalamudi, Ms. Trahan, Maestra Hernandez, Ms. McGee, Ms. Klemm, Ms. Tan, Ms. Wang, and Counselors Ms. Kim, Ms. Moore, and Ms. Te! Please see below a list of our active student clubs so far this year.
Student Clubs: We encourage students to pay attention to each day’s Hawk Bulletin for club meeting information. In the attached file, you can also see the list of clubs arranged by their meeting time.
International Walk & Roll to School Day: On Wednesday, 10/9, we encourage students to participate in this event by walking, biking, scootering, skateboarding, busing, and carpooling to school. Participanting students should stop by our check-in stations managed by PFA and parent volunteers — in front of the Main Office or between the bike cages behind our school — to get a prize! Choose green this Wednesday and every day!Â
Boys Basketball Tryouts: Coach Jones would like to invite interested Hawks to try out for our Boys Basketball teams! Make sure you complete the followiing required steps before your grade-level tryout date:Â
Library Closed After School on Wednesday, 10/9: Due to a scheduled district meeting for our Library Media Tech Ms. Menaka. Thank you for making other pickup arrangements.Â
No School on Friday, 10/11: School is closed this Friday, 10/11, due to staff’s Professional Development Day.Â
Phishing Emails: Unfortunately, we continue to see emails sent from student and staff accounts that have been compromised, such as an email asking you to click on a link for a job application. Please continue to be vigilant and ignore suspicious messages. We also recommend students to reset their FUSD account password right away if they ever accidentally click on a suspicious link. Please go here for password reset:Â https://launchpad.classlink.com/fremontusd
Say Something Anonymous Reporting System: Starting this year, our district is implementing a free app that allows students to make anonymous reports of safety concerns. All of our students received training last week on when and how they can report unsafe or concerning behaviors that could cause self harm or harm to others. Please see the attached flyer to download the mobile app. Students can also make anonymous reports via texting, calling, or reporting on the website. Please see below.
Concerning Behaviors and Next Steps:Â
Tardiness: To address students’ tardiness during the school day, we will be running tardy sweeps starting next week. Please speak with students about the importance of being on time. Students with unexcused lateness during a tardy sweep will receive a detention.Â
Racial slurs and other discriminatory behaviors: Our students have reported that they continue to hear racial slurs such as the N-word being used by peers on campus. We’re asking parents/guardians to please check in with students to understand what they experience from others as well as what they directly engage in. Even if a student does not have the intention to harm, if they make comments or take actions that target someone’s race, gender, sexuality, religion, ability/disability, language, or family inocme, they will receive an out-of-class suspension or a suspension that lasts one or more days for creating a hostile learning environment. Families – we need your help to check in with your children and re-emphasize the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.Â
A Message from Mission San Jose: Mission San Jose High School’s admin team  has for the first time received some requests from our families asking to enroll middle school students in AP exams. Please know that AP exams are for high school students. There is no reason nor benefit to spend time on AP exams in middle school.Â
We are looking forward to a turn for cooler weather and upcoming festivities sponsored by the PFA, as well as Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences. We deeply appreciate our home-school partnerships to help students thrive emotionally, socially, academically, and physically.Â
