Hopkins Principal’s Newsletter 12/14/2024

Dear Hopkins Families and Students,

A big thank you to our 7th grade history, ELD, and SDC teachers for helping 7th graders complete the California Healthy Kids Survey in November. Another shout out goes to our PE teachers who are currently guiding all students to complete a schoolwide survey in class. Student voices matter. Our staff and community groups such as the School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee analyze these survey results every year to plan next steps in support of students. 

Art Mural Contest: We have a beautiful campus and are working to add more elements such as a mural that is representative of our vibrant community. On Friday, 12/13, Assistant Principal Mrs. Moore emailed students details regarding this contest. Please read the email with your students and message Mrs. Moore if you have any questions (jmoore@fusdk12.net). The deadline for students to submit their designs is Tuesday, 1/28/2025.

Schedule Change Requests for Spring 2025: Beginning Wednesday, 12/11, students who would like to request a schedule change for Spring 2025 can submit their requests through this link which is also available on our website. Schedule Change Requests are open from December 11-December 19, 4:00 PM AND January 6-24, 4:00 PM. Please note the change request directions below:

• All schedule change requests may be denied based on class size limitations and are NOT guaranteed
• Requesting to add a course: be sure you meet ALL recommended AND required pre reqs in FUSD Course Catalog
• Requests will not be accepted during the winter break

End-of-Semester Schedules: On Thursday 12/19 and Friday 12/20, school ends at 12:35 PM. Please see the attached image for details. AC Transit buses operate at their usual Thursday and Friday pickup times of approximately 2:35 PM. Please make pickup arrangements on those dates.

Families in Need: 

• With the family’s permission, we share their request on behalf of our student Alex, who has recently been diagnosed with leukemia. Many have asked how they can help – please consider donating, no contribution is too small to help. Sharing with your network also helps reach more potential donors. • Holiday Gift Card Drive for Hopkins Families: If you are able to help, please drop off gift cards in our Main Office by 3:30 PM on Monday, 12/16 — this gives us time to distribute to Hopkins families in need. Some of our Hopkins families are facing challenging circumstances in this holiday season. Our PFA, in partnership with the counseling department, is collecting gift cards for essentials like groceries, household items, and fuel to provide relief for Hopkins families. The following are examples of store gift cards that would be helpful:
