Hopkins Principal’s Newsletter – 11/9/2024

Dear Hopkins Students and Families,

We had quite a busy couple of weeks, with Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences, PFA-sponsored Diwali celebration, Halloween lunchtime concert performed by Advanced Orchestra students and Mr. Sarten, and Dia de los Muertos lunchtime learning activities hosted by Spanish Immersion teachers (Maestra Hernandez and Maestra Perez), students, and parent volunteers. These community conversations and gatherings were made possible because of the hard and heart work of our custodians, teachers, office staff, PFA leadership, and many parent volunteers. Thank you!

No School on Monday, 11/11: In honor of our veterans' service and sacrifices, school will be closed on Monday, 11/11. We will resume on Tuesday, 11/12.

Library Closure After School on Thursday, 11/14 due to a scheduled staff meeting.

Girls Basketball Team Tryouts: We are looking for players who are passionate about basketball and learning the game, aim to be good teammates, and are excited to see what can be achieved when you believe in yourselves and each other.
REQUIRED for Tryouts:

  1. Online Application (due 11/22/24) - please see the attached flyer for link.
  2. SIGNED Tryout Permission Slip . Turn in signed permission slip to office prior to tryouts or bring to the tryouts.

If your student has not had a physical exam this year, it's a good idea to complete it ASAP so that they'll be able to submit a completed Sport Physical Evaluation form -- this is required for students who are selected for our Teams A and B in order to participate in practices and games.

  • Both the Tryout Permission Slip and Sport Physical Evaluation Form can be picked up from our Main Office Monday through Friday, 7:30-3:30 PM

Extracurricular Opportunities:

  • Hawks Bulletin: Students watch this video bulletin for information regarding clubs, intramural sports, and other important school activities and services. This is posted on our website every day. Families can watch it together at home to talk about all the exciting events happening @ Hopkins!
  • Rotary Young Innovators 3D Printing Challenge: This is open to students in grades 7-12 who have an idea to solve a societal program using 3D printing technology. Please see the flyer here for more details.

Save the Dates:

  • Monday, 11/11: No School in honor of Veterans Day
  • Wednesday, 11/13, 7-8 PM: PFA Meeting on Zoom
  • Thursday, 11/21, 3-5 PM: Boys Basketball @ Centerville
