Hopkins Student Safety and Immigration

Dear Hopkins Families,

This morning our district office received information from the City of Fremont that Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be present in Fremont’s Sundale area. Please see the message below. 

Uniformed ICE agents in unmarked vehicles will be conducting “Knock and Talks” primarily in the Sundale area according to what we’ve been advised of.  We are told that “Knock and Talks” focus on specific individuals and seek voluntary cooperation. Our police department is monitoring the situation and remain committed to supporting our community according to our immigration policy which follows state law.

Please know that Fremont Unified and Hopkins remain committed to supporting all of our students and families, regardless of immigration status. All of our staff have been trained to follow protocols related immigration enforcement to protect student safety and privacy: 

• ICE agents are not permitted to enter non-public areas of a school campus. This means they cannot go past our Main Office lobby without a judicial warrant, judicial subpoena, or court order signed by a judge.
• Staff will not disclose information about students, either verbally or in writing, to an officer or employee of an agency conducting immigration enforcement.
• Fremont Police does not assist with immigration enforcement.
