Welcome to Thornton

Thornton Middle School is located in North Fremont on Thornton Avenue.  Students attending Ardenwood, Brookvale, Forest Park, Patterson, Oliveira, and Warwick Elementary Schools attend Thornton for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades before going to American High School for grades 9th through 12th.  The student body at Thornton Middle School proudly represents many different cultures, languages, identities, and ethnicities.  Our school site teachers and staff work to support all students in their learning and growth as individuals.  Thornton Middle School has an enrollment of approximately 1,900 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

We look forward to welcoming students, staff, and families to view all the renovations made over the past couple of years, including a new math/science building, administrative and library facilities, and landscaping across the campus.

Thornton Middle School is proud to offer a strong electives program that includes robotics, Minecraft,  leadership, dance, yearbook, French I and II, and Spanish. Music electives include chorus, beginning band, concert band, and symphonic band.  Art electives include ceramics, arts and crafts, and lettering/calligraphy. Students also have the opportunity to join clubs and athletic programs at lunch and after school.

Thornton has a very active PTSA that meets monthly to plan and organize programs and activities for our staff and students. The PTSA raises funds, recruits volunteers, and organizes events and celebrations for the students and community of Thornton.

We are committed to the mental wellness of our students and have four full-time counselors assigned by students’ last names. Last year, the district adopted a Social Emotional Learning curriculum, which we provide to all students throughout the year. We have also reimagined our school Wellness Center, which all students have access to.
