101 Fremont Unified Students Named 2025 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
This fall seniors from each comprehensive high school in Fremont Unified were named 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists. In all, 101 FUSD students were among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists named nationally, representing less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide.
For the fourth year in a row, the City of Fremont is in the top three California cities in terms of total semifinalists. Fremont, the 16th most populous city in the state, has 118 semifinalists, trailing only San Diego and the City of San José, the second- and third-most populous cities in California.
High school juniors were screened for the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program through the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®); semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
The 101 semifinalists in the District represent each comprehensive high school: Mission San Jose High School has 36 semifinalists, American High School has 33, Irvington High School has 25, Washington High School has six, and John F. Kennedy High School has one semifinalist.
Lists of semifinalists are available in media coverage from The Mercury News and Fremont Patch.
Semifinalists may submit an application demonstrating their academic record, school and community activities, leadership, employment, honors/awards received, and meet additional requirements to progress.
Students will be notified if they advanced to the finalist level in 2025, and the 2025 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in four nationwide news releases between April and July 2025.
