English Language Development
The English Language Development (ELD) department at Washington serves students classified as English Learners as they develop their English language literacy and language skills. The ELD department provides English language instruction to English Learners and is responsible for assessing and placing students into three ELD levels based on their English language proficiency. ELD 1, 2, and 3 give differentiated skill development in reading, writing, listening, and speaking with curriculum aligned to California's Department of Education standards. Students may be placed into an English Language Arts (ELA) grade level course after passing ELD 3 or with qualifying proficiency scores.
