Dear Fremont Unified Community,
I hope the first weeks of 2024 have brought you moments of joy, and time to look forward to the year ahead, as I did in my recent message celebrating the achievements of 2023 and setting goals for our district moving forward.
This year Fremont Unified celebrates its 60th anniversary of serving students and our community. It is amazing to consider the people, events and changes our schools have seen and supported since 1964. I look forward to celebrating Fremont Unified’s past, present and future at our State of the District presentation on January 30. Effective January 22, Fremont Unified is updating its COVID-19 protocols for students and staff to align with recent changes to COVID-19 guidance and regulations applicable to California schools, employers and employees. The updates move to a symptom-based approach for isolation, see below for key protocols applicable to our students and staff.
I thank each of you for the care you have demonstrated for our students, staff and schools through your cooperation and compliance with shifting public health protocols.

Fremont Unified COVID-19 Protocols, effective January 22, 2024
- Students and staff must continue to report COVID-19 cases to their school/supervisor.
- Isolation requirements for positive cases:
- For COVID-19 cases with symptoms, with or without fever, students/staff may return at least 24 hours from the day of symptom onset if:
- 24 hours have passed with no fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications, AND
- their symptoms are mild and improving.
- For COVID-19 cases with no symptoms, there is no period of isolation or exclusion. If symptoms develop, the criteria above will apply.
- Face coverings following a COVID-19 diagnosis (with or without symptoms) are:
- Recommended for students through day 10, or following two sequential negative tests at least one day apart. Day 0 is symptom onset date or positive test date.
- Required for employees through day 10 per Cal/OSHA guidance for workplaces. Day 0 is symptom onset date or positive test date.
- Close contact notifications and testing opportunities will be provided to staff exposed at the workplace to individuals with COVID-19 during their infectious period.
Fremont Unified’s current COVID-19 protocols and resources will remain available at fremontunified.org/covid.
For students with symptoms of illness who test negative for COVID-19, please refer to California Department of Public Health guidance on when a student should stay home from school, available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and additional languages here.

2024-25 Enrollment Information
Information on transitional kindergarten (TK), kindergarten, sibling priority and other new student enrollment for the 2024-25 school year is now available at fremontunified.org/enroll.
Eligibility for transitional kindergarten is expanding: Children who will be 5 years old between September 2, 2024 and June 2, 2025 can enroll in this free program for 2024-25 to get a head start in school and build their social, communication and independence skills.
If your student is currently attending an FUSD school in grades TK-11, there is no need to re-enroll. |
