FREMONT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT’S CHRISTY TAYLOR NAMED AN ALAMEDA COUNTY TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Fremont, CA - Fremont Unified School District’s Christy Taylor was named a 2022 Alameda County Teacher of the Year on October 6.
The announcement came at the Alameda County Office of Education’s 33rd annual Alameda County Teacher of the Year Awards at the Castro Valley Center for the Arts. Click here to view photos and read an event summary.
Taylor was one of 18 Alameda County teachers recognized for their professional excellence as educators, and is one of two teachers selected to represent Alameda County in consideration for California Teacher of the Year honors, which are expected to be announced soon.
“Mrs. Taylor inspires her students to love learning and brings a sense of wonder to her classroom. She also shares her time, energy and passion with her colleagues, helping to sustain an environment in our district where lifelong learning is practiced and celebrated. FUSD is proud to be represented by Mrs. Taylor as she receives this well-deserved recognition in the education community,” said Superintendent CJ Cammack.
Taylor has worked for Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) since 2009 and has been a teacher for over 25 years; she currently teaches kindergarten at Cabrillo Elementary.
“Mrs. Taylor brings grace, wisdom, and good humor to Cabrillo every day. I am exceptionally fortunate as an administrator and colleague to bear witness to the light she shines ensuring no corner remains in the dark,” said Cabrillo Elementary Principal David Thornley.
“It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to be part of the Cabrillo community. To couple that with the joy of seeing our students grow is a great delight. To my kindergarteners: you are incredible. To my colleagues: thank you for the honor of being part of the professional community of educators,” said Taylor as she accepted her award.
“Mrs. Taylor represents so well the values and strengths of our outstanding educators in FUSD: she brings curiosity and a commitment to continued growth to her work, she cares for her students in and beyond the classroom, and she prepares each of her students to be ready for their next step,” said FUSD Board of Education President Dianne Jones.
“I have this little classroom in this little world here, and what we do in our classroom and the change we make for the child impacts the family, which impacts my community, which impacts my school. “As educators, we get to be the ones who invest in the future. And this great honor is an encouragement to me, and I believe it is to all of us, to continue the work of changing the world,” said Taylor as she accepted her award as a teacher of the year on Thursday evening, before she was named a county-level winner.
“I want to thank all the people who have been part of investing in me, and I thank every student who has allowed me to invest in you,” said Taylor in a speech after she was named FUSD’s Teacher of the Year on March 23, 2022.
Mrs. Taylor is now in consideration for statewide recognition as a 2023 California Teacher of the Year; more information on the state program can be found here from the California Department of Education.
