Activities Modified As Needed During Extreme Heat

Schools will make any needed modifications to minimize the impact of the heat on students and staff.

After-school activities/sports will be modified as appropriate, any specific information will come from individual schools if needed.

Please remind students to hydrate often, avoid extended exposure to sun and heat, and alert an adult if they do not feel well.

We will continue to monitor the temperature and local air quality, and will modify activities in alignment with California Department of Public Health’s Guidance for Schools on Sports and Strenuous Activities During Extreme Heat,
the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Extreme Heat and Air Quality Policy, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s School Air Quality Activity Recommendations.

Current information will be posted to our website, and the District and/or sites will send further communication if any action is needed.

All schools are open, with some modifications to minimize the impact of the heat and poor air quality on students and staff:

  • Schools will cancel or move outdoor activities indoors between 10:00am - 5:00pm to the extent possible.
  • Windows and doors will remain closed to maintain healthy air quality indoors.
  • HVAC and air filtration systems will be used where possible to improve indoor air.

After-school activities/sports will be modified as appropriate, any specific information will come from individual schools if needed.

Please remind students to hydrate often, avoid extended exposure to sun and heat, and alert an adult if they do not feel well.

October 2, 2024

The District is canceling all outdoor after-school athletic contests on Wednesday, October 2 due to the excessive heat warning in our area.

Other outdoor activities, indoor athletic contests, and/or athletic practices may be moved indoors or canceled, please look for information from your school.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for our area, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued a Spare the Air Alert.

All schools will remain open, but we will continue to monitor conditions and determine any future modifications on a day-by-day basis to minimize the impact of the heat and poor air quality on students and staff. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for our area through Wednesday, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued a Spare the Air Alert through Tuesday. 

All schools are open, with some modifications to minimize the impact of the heat and poor air quality on students and staff:
