Clubs

The following clubs at Horner meet during lunch and every student must have a hall pass in order to attend the meetings.

  • Art Club
    • Advisor: Janien Ferry
    • This club will create beautification projects throughout the school year. This includes creating and coloring Horner posters to decorate school.

  • Card Cave Club

    • Students bring trading cards and showcase and trade them amongst each other.

  • Coding Club
    • Advisor: Jason Whalley
    • For students interested in wanting a space and time to program with like-minded students. This is a journey of exploration and self-learning supported by the club community of practice. Students should choose projects of their own interest to research, work on, and showcase in spring. Most experienced students may also participate in either national competitions or local hackathons in a virtual format.

  • Creative Writing Club
    • Advisor: Kimberly Tadena
    • Members will be giving writing prompts and tips for them to use while writing their own creative short stories. Writing pieces will be shared out loud to the entire club. The club's purpose is to help students improve their writing and create enthusiasm towards sharing their creative pieces of work.

  • Dance Club
    • Advisor: Josh Steckler
    • Students gather together to perform dance routines that they create. Students will perform dances at various times during the school year at lunch time.

  • Debate Club
    • Advisor: Eileen Lindley
    • Teaches students how to debate and provide them with a fun place to learn. Students can express their opinions and learn the skills of a polite verbal spar.

  • Dungeons & Dragons Club
    • Advisor: Josh Steckler
    • This club is about going on adventures with goals along the way, creating your own custom character according to your imagination and game rules, interacting as a collaborative adventuring party, working your way through riddles/traps/puzzles, and fighting enemies to gain wealth and experience for your characters. Our adventures are called "campaigns' and are led by dungeonmasters or DMs. DMs can create their own campaigns with unique story lines and character interactions. This club requires an open mind but inclusive to all.

  • Girl Up Club
    • Advisor: Yvette Dekker
    • This club will represent under represented and unheard women. Some ways we do this is by writing to Congress about women's issues and concerns, and hopefully, affecting change within legislative bills.

  • Interact Club
    • Advisor: Jessie Qutami
    • This club is funded by Rotary Clubs and organized at least two service projects a year; one that benefits their community and one that encourages international awareness. Interact Club is a community service club dedicated to serving others in our international and local community. Whether it's club members, officers, or even district council, every Interactor is dedicated to following the Interact motto; "Service above self." We strive to change the world with our love for service.

  • Math Club

    • The purpose of this club is to encourage students to interact with one another while continuing their education with math skills. This encourage and spark kids mathematical interest and help them overcome any fear they may have with Math. Students will engage in puzzles, problem solving and various resources math related.

  • MEChA Club
    • Advisor; Estefany Flores Deperalta
    • Building Latinx community and engaging cultural events such as dance, mixers, and gatherings.

  • Music Club

    • This club is the leadership council for Horner's music classes. They help plan logistics for concerts and field trips, develop fundraiser for the music department, and plan decorations for the music room and concert venues.

    • This club have students write and publish "Buzzword' which is placed on the school website. The Newspaper Club is open to students interested in writing, editing, photography, social media, or anything else in the field of journalism.

    • This club is intended for students to make Horner a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

    • This club is for individuals who want to learn about Python and how to use it. Python is commonly used for developing websites and software, task automation, data analysis, and data visualization.

    • Come join the club to play soccer and meet friends. All skill levels are welcome.

  • Stock Market Club

    • This club we will learn about the stock market and how to trade on the stock market. We will discuss buying and selling ideas regarding trade agreements and about stock market in general.

    • This club focuses on promoting environmentalism, conservation, and sustainability within the school and community. We will organize recycling and waste reduction initiatives within the school setting.

  • Yarny Arts Club

    • This club will meet to craft yarn once every other week. Supplies can be borrowed during the school year as needed. Consider crafting stuffed animals, hats, scarves, mittens, bags, etc., for yourself or consider knitting/crocheting for charity!
