Principal’s Message for May 25, 2022

May 25, 2022
Dear Mattos Community,
The recent tragedy in Texas is likely on the minds of many parents and community members. Our school and district are dedicated to working with you to provide as safe a school as possible. We are a community and neighborhood school and our closeness as a community can support a neighborhood watch collaboration as three sides of our school are visible from Farwell residents and residents on either side of the school. Please help be our eyes and ears.
As a sight we have a safety plan that includes monitoring people on campus and limiting access. In the past year when we have locked back gates someone has cut locks off. The locks are to limit access where there is no clear sightline for people entering the campus. Please do not tamper with locks. Pleas assist safety by using the front entrance and checking into the office.
If you are a neighbor who has clear sight into our campus please know we value the times you have reported issues when school is not in session. We also appreciate reports we have received when you have seen something that does not look correct. Thank you for your vigilance. We are also vigilant and will increase visibility before, during and after school as much as possible giving our limited staff.
We recently had our Mattos Facilities Teams do collaborative surveys concerning high priority facility items that need attention. Each of the committees identified as a priority providing safety solutions and the possibility of limiting access to the site for the safety of all.
Please feel free to contact me if you have specific concerns about safety procedures. Our top priority is keeping your children safe and providing a great learning environment. If you have any anxiety about safety issues I am happy to talk with you. If your child needs assurance I can also talk with them or have our counselor check in. When a tragedy occurs it’s important to address that many people will need to process it in different ways. FUSD sent our links to resources and there are human resources on site to assist you.
Please remember that this Friday; we will have the Mattos Marathon for students to look forward to. Exercise and participation will relieve anxiety for students that feel it and it will be fun for all. A health and safety tip for the Mattos Marathon is to have students wear their Marathon T-shirts or a light weight shirt, use sunscreen, and bring water bottles. Let’s use this awesome event our PTA put together as a way to work together positively and as the amazing community we are.
Cordially,
Susan Guerrero
