Principal’s Message for May 18, 2022

Principal’s Message

May 18, 2022

Dear Mattos Community,

Today our FUSD Leadership is interviewing final candidates for the position of Principal at Mattos. Interviews are confidential and the successful candidate will be presented to our FUSD School Board for approval at the June 15, 2022 board meeting. It is exciting to know that a comprehensive process is occurring to find the best fit for the Mattos Community. Please look to announcements in June to find out who the next principal will be.

Our 3rd through 5th grade have almost completed the standardized testing. Students have been great as they have been focused while testing. I know they will all be glad to be done soon. One thing we have noticed with upper graders at this time is that students tend to need to run around more and blow off steam. This is likely due to sitting focused during testing, doing research to complete projects, and generally working hard. We try to make sure they have opportunities to run around at recess and P.E. and if possible you may want to encourage more physical activities after school.

At the end of the year we have different events occurring such as the Mattos Marathon on Friday, May 27th and Mattos Field Day on Thursday, June 2nd that will help with the need to be active.  These events are a lot of fun for the kids and we’d like to encourage everyone to participate.

Please be aware that we will continue to have early release Wednesday and in addition at the end of the year we some shortened days. It’s important to plan for these so your child is not left waiting in the office. Leaving children at school causes anxiety for the children and difficulties for our office staff who are busy doing their jobs.

The days you may want to be aware of are:

Friday, May 20th   All library books must be turned in as the library will be closing for the year.

Wednesday, May 25th Minimum Day with dismissal at 1:25

Monday, May 30th      No School – Memorial Day

Wednesday, June 1st   Minimum Day with dismissal at 1:25

Thursday, June 2nd     Short Day with dismissal at 12:50

Friday, June 3rd            Short Day with dismissal at 12:50

Monday, June 6th       Short Day with dismissal at 12:50

This is the last day of school and students are expected to attend.

Have a wonderful rest of the week and a great weekend!

Cordially,

Susan Guerrero
