Welcome to MSJE
Through rigorous standards, character education, and a safe learning environment, students will be provided with multiple opportunities to develop the skills they need to become successful learners.
Nestled in the center of the historic Mission San Jose district in the foothills of Mission Peak is Mission San Jose Elementary - home of the Mustangs.
MSJE is a study in contrasts: both a very old and very new school - both tradition-bound and forward-thinking - a small school in the heart of the community where big ideas strike a harmonious chord.
Our school's mission is "the development of students' unique talents and abilities in a nurturing and supportive environment." This mission, developed by the staff and parents years ago, is still relevant for our school today and is embraced by the school community.
Since 1852 when a pioneer established the first school, immigrants have continued to find an inviting home in a small school which is part of its community. MSJE is currently housed in its fourth building, only a short distance from the old Mission San Jose de Guadeloupe founded in 1797. The school has always been an important part of the community. All earlier sites are within a mile of the current location. The present school has been on this current site since 1956, although the old school bell in front of the office is dated 1889.
A surprising number of our children are the second generation to attend this school. Indeed, some of our parents were taught by their child's present teacher! MSJE has a reputation for academic excellence, a professional and well-trained staff, and strong community support. Elements of Mission's effectiveness are reflected throughout the school.
