Program Overview

Welcome to our program at Robertson High School! Our program is dedicated to empowering students to achieve their academic goals, earn a high school diploma, and develop valuable vocational skills while fostering personal growth. We pride ourselves on offering a supportive environment where students can make up academic deficiencies and benefit from a smaller class size with a student-teacher ratio of 22 to 1.

At Robertson, students have the opportunity to accelerate their learning by earning over 80 credits per year. We actively encourage students to expand their knowledge by taking additional coursework, whether on campus, through ROP, or at the adult school.

Our student body is comprised of young individuals seeking an alternative school program that empowers them to succeed and fulfill high school graduation requirements. Robertson High School also warmly welcomes teen parents who appreciate the convenience of being near their children’s daycare facilities.

Here’s how you can join our vibrant community:

Students who are at least 16 years old are eligible to transfer voluntarily from any of the five comprehensive high schools.
Begin by speaking with your counselor or administrator who will complete a referral form.
Before starting classes, both you and a parent or guardian are invited to attend a Robertson orientation to get acquainted with our school community.

What sets Robertson High School apart?

At Robertson High School, we provide a refreshing alternative to the traditional high school experience. With a small school environment and a low teacher-student ratio of 22:1, we ensure personalized attention and support for every student. Our accelerated pace allows students to complete up to 16 classes per year, surpassing the typical 12 classes offered at traditional high schools. This approach not only accelerates academic progress but also empowers students to achieve their goals more quickly and effectively.

What are the Graduation requirements for Robertson High School?

To graduate from Robertson High School, students must successfully complete 200 high school credits along with fulfilling necessary service learning hours (10 per school year). The mandatory core curriculum classes that must be completed are identical to the comprehensive high school with exception of 30 elective credits and/or the required service learning hours. This approach ensures that students receive a well-rounded education while allowing them to tailor their learning experience to their interests and goals.

A graduation ceremony from Robertson High School is held every June at TAK Stadium on the Washington High School campus.

Education (Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment)

We will:

provide a rigorous standards-based curriculum with measurable daily lesson objectives
focus on student mastery/learning and academic language
incorporate interactive strategies to increase engagement within classrooms
embed technology into various aspects of the curriculum/instruction
differentiate instructional strategies to engage our students

School Environment (Safety, Culture, Climate)

We will:

provide opportunities for students to take part in restorative practices, student leadership, and AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) courses.
ensure that there are multiple and varied events and programs that recognize and reward student growth and citizenship at school and in the community
create and maintain a school garden
complete inclusive campus beautification projects at least twice per year that add color and enhance the physical environment of the school (Make a Difference Day)
implement a safety plan and regularly train students and staff in the event of an emergency
engage students in lunchtime activities and service learning opportunities
begin each semester with Rebel Day to focus on our Core 4

Community Relations (All Stakeholders)

We will:

create partnerships with all parents by regularly hosting parent educational workshops/seminars where childcare and interpreters are provided
regularly communicate in a variety of ways with all stakeholders and actively seek their feedback via surveys, questionnaires, and evaluation forms.
provide an open door policy that encourages families to meet and chat with school staff members.
ensure that all parent events take place at a time of day that is convenient for them to attend
actively seek community partnerships to enhance programs and to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders
promote all of our successes, events, activities to the media via the district’s Public Relations Officer, or through direct contact with local media outlets
invite parents and students to advocate and promote the school by having them attend new student orientations and recruitment events at the local high schools

School Support Services

We will:

daily embedded and effective intervention time during the school day for targeted students (flex)
implement mentorship for students (check and connect)
staff therapists to support the mental health of our students.
create a wellness center to provide a space for students to focus on mental health and substance abuse
create an individualized graduation plan for all students
provide Rebel Club twice a week
provide transportation for students to and from school
staff push in support to increase access for students in the classroom

College and Career Readiness

We will:

provide an onsite college and career resource for students and families.
improve service learning opportunities both on and off campus during the regular school year and summer school
provide ROP fairs and other college/career-related assemblies
integrate vocational courses into the master schedule
build partnerships with community organizations to provide career and college preparatory opportunities for our students
