Bringhurst Newsletter #2

September 5, 2025
Thank you volunteers

Principal's Message

We have had two very successful Back to School Nights since our last newsletter. Many had given feedback on how the flow of people, traffic, and parking was observably better due to this split. We especially appreciate those parents who had both upper and lower grade students for being flexible with their schedules and attending both nights.

Bringhurst is also proud to announce that we are officially receiving our PBIS Silver Recognition Award! We want to give a special shout out to our PBIS team for their hard work and all of the support of our teachers to adopting our student management system.

Our next big even is our fundraising event - Blazerunner on 9/19. Thank you in advance to parents who will come to volunteer to keep the event a fun and safe for all students. We are excited to see you soon!

Be kind, be safe, be responsible.
Be your blazer best!
Mrs. Hsu & Mrs. Black

Peace path
Another problem-solving model we taught is called the Peace Path. You will find a couple of these painted on the play ground. We encourage family to practice with these whenever the family is using the park!

Response to Bullying Concerns

At Lila Bringhurst Elementary, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for every child. At the beginning of the school year, we often see more discipline incidents as students readjust to school routines and expectations. Our staff uses positive behavior supports to guide student choices and address concerns quickly and fairly. When a bullying concern is reported, we follow clear district procedures that include investigating the situation, communicating directly with the parents of the students involved, and taking appropriate steps to ensure student safety and well-being. Please note that while we share information with families about their own child, details about other students are kept confidential. Together, we can keep our school a safe and welcoming place for all.

Pictures and Video Taping

A kind reminder that we do not allow video taping or taking pictures of students on campus. We want to protect the privacy of our students. A staff member will ask you to stop and delete footage. Thank you for understanding.

Problem-Solving Toolbox

Our goal at Bringhurst is for students to independently acknowledge their emotions, self-regulate, and solve problems. As a PBIS school, we provide tools to students, train all staff to use them, and share information with parents so students can practice these skills until it becomes second nature.

Our students have been learning about the following 4 tools. Please click into each picture to see the slide deck that's taught, and practice them at home with your child!
Breathing tool
Listening tool
Apology and forgiveness tool
Garbage can tool

math challenge
Looking for a fun way to boost your child's math skills and confidence? The Math Challenge is back this year! Sign up here

This is a fun and free program open to all students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Students get a challenge to work on every 2-3 weeks. Parents and siblings are encouraged to help. This is a fantastic opportunity for some quality family time, discussing and solving problems together.

There will be a total of 15 challenges posted throughout the school year. Students who submit at least 10 challenges on time will be recognized before the end of the year!

The first challenge will be posted on next Friday, September 12th, and your little mathematicians will have until September 25th to show off their skills.

Sign up today to enter our roster for the program and stay informed as new challenges and solutions become available.

Check out our website (ignore the “Fall Math Classes” pop up) for more details. Have more questions? Feel free to reach out to Jenny Wang at [email protected].

Traffic Committee Update

  • Thanks to all the parents’ cooperation, we have continued to see a smoother drop-off experience. Just a few reminders:
  1. No Double Parking! We have continued to observe cars double parking and blocking flow of traffic as well as creating hazardous conditions jeopardizing safety for our community. More concerningly, there are repeat offenders who consistently do so. If you see something, say something!
  2. The traffic committee is exploring solutions to reduce poor traffic behaviors. Meanwhile, Fremont Police Department encourages parents to share and report into the non-emergency line (510) 790 6800, Option 3, for traffic violations.
  • We need more volunteers! Thank you to new volunteers stepping up but we can always use more (e.g. Insight side can use some hands to open doors)!
  • The Traffic Committee has worked tirelessly to listen to parents for ideas to improve the drop-off/pickup experiences. If you would like, please join the new WhatsApp Traffic Discussion Group within the Bringhurst All Parents Community to share your thoughts and offer solutions.
