Bringhurst Newsletter #14

Just like that, we have wrapped up our second trimester! Reminder to all parents that there is NO SCHOOL tomorrow on Friday 3/13, and students do not come back from spring break until Monday 3/23.
After we come back from spring break, we are officially in the last stretch of the school year. We will be gearing up for state testing, major fieldtrips, and lots of end-of-the-year activities. We want to thank parents in advance for supporting our students and teachers to make these events successful and memorable.
Have a wonderful spring break!
Be kind, be safe, be responsible. Be your blazer best!

This year's bookfair was another success. It is one of our most popular events of the year as the kids enjoy browsing and looking at cool books. Thank you to all of our volunteers who came to help through out the week, and for all the families who came out during the family night event to support Bringhurst's library! |
The biggest stuffie spotted during our Read Across America spirit week! |
In celebration of Read Across America week, our 4th graders had the opportunity to visit “Starbooks,” a fun, café-themed reading experience. Students ordered a drink, enjoyed some snacks, and spent time reading books recommended by their classmates and teachers. It was a wonderful way to celebrate reading and build excitement around books! A big shout-out goes to Kim Martin, our 4th grade teacher who spearheaded this event, as well as our incredible parent volunteers Sree, Christine, Elaine, Stacey, Pavana, Sharon, Shrisha, and Sherry, who spent hours decorating, setting up books, and helping make the café come to life. We truly couldn’t have done this without your time and support. Thank you for helping create such a special experience for our students! |
Since March is Women’s History Month and 4th graders just came back from a StopWaste field trip, students reused waste materials from home to create a Women’s History door display. They made picture frames using recycled materials and included pictures of inspiring women along with explanations of why these women inspire them.
The display was placed in the hallway so that students passing by could learn about these influential women. Through this project, students learned that waste materials can be reused to create something meaningful while also sharing knowledge and inspiration with others. The recycled picture frames also showed how reused materials can be turned into art or used to present importance.

Recently, we have seen an increase in incidents where students are pulling down each other’s pants or attempting to expose private parts during play. Even if meant as a joke, this behavior is not appropriate and will not be tolerated at school. Our staff addresses these incidents seriously because every student deserves to feel safe and respected.
We ask for your partnership in speaking with your child about respecting body boundaries. Please remind them that private parts are private, and exposing or pulling down someone’s clothing is not a joke and is unacceptable behavior.
You may consider discussing:
- Keeping hands to themselves and respecting others’ bodies
- That private parts should never be shown or joked about at school
- Walking away or telling an adult if they see this behavior happening
Thank you for helping us reinforce these expectations so that our school remains a safe and respectful place for all students.

We are excited to share that 4th grade fundraising for the Sacramento field trip is now complete! The total cost of the trip is approximately $17,000, which includes charter buses for all six 4th grade classes across three days and admission fees. Through the incredible support of our teachers, families, PTO, and community during Otter Pops, Spooky Grams, Double Good Popcorn, Parent Matching Donations, the Entrepreneur Fair, and Snack Shack, we successfully raised the full amount needed. Because of this effort, all 4th grade students will be able to attend the Sacramento field trip at no cost to families. We are so proud of what our community accomplished together for our students, and we truly appreciate everyone who supported these efforts throughout the year.

Thank you to all of our students and families for participating in our February Basket Raffle! We had over 20 winners who received some awesome themed prizes, and with your support we raised almost $600 to help fund blazer folders for next year. We are also very proud of our Student Council members for their hard work organizing the baskets, creating promotional posters, and selecting our weekly winners. Their teamwork and leadership helped make this fundraiser a big success. Thank you families and students for supporting our school community!

PBIS Parent Volunteers Needed
As we continue to grow our PBIS efforts this year, we are looking to add parent involvement to our PBIS team! On the third Wednesday of each month our team meets to discuss plans for PBIS at Bringhurst. We would need parent input for the first 15-20 minutes of each meeting (1:45 - 2:00pm). We would share what issues we are seeing on campus and have you brainstorm with the team on how to address these needs at school. Please let us know if you're interested!

We have heard many parents wonder: “How do schools get funded?” or “Why are there always budget cuts?” PTO and CIPCF wanted to be able to help parents get the answers they seek!
We are honored to host a meet and greet about the school/district budget with our Superintendent Zack Larsen! Also joining us will be the FUSD Director of Budget James Arcala, School Board Trustee and President Dianne Jones, and School Board Trustee Larry Sweeney.
During the next PTO and CIPCF meeting, we have invited them to come to meet our Bringhurst parents and to share a bit more about how school budgeting works and what parents should know about the budget. There will be a short time for Q & A as well! They will cover topics like how the budget works, what are some upcoming projections, and what parents should know and how parents can help.
We hope you can make it! Given that it might be a larger crowd-we have also changed the Zoom Link to a new Zoom Room.

We're going up up up for an epic movie night with Huntr/x and the Saja Boys! Come on out to the MUR on Thursday, March 26th to watch Kpop Demon Hunters! We will be doing open seating on the floor in the MUR--so you can bring a small cushion or small blanket if you'd like. No chairs as to keep the space as open as possible. This is not a drop off event.
We will have food and concessions starting at 5:00pm and the movie will start at 5:30pm. We will be selling hot dogs, ramen, popcorn and more before the movie begins.

A big THANK YOU to Mathnasium for providing the games, activities, and stations for our Family Math Night!
Mathnasium Math Night games have been professionally developed and tested to meet the needs and interests of two elementary levels: Kindergarten through Grade 2 and Grades 3 through 6. They are specifically designed to be fun, interactive, and short—so attendees have time to visit all TEN stations! We will have high school volunteers to help with each station. This is not a drop off event—so parents, please attend with your child!

Thursday, April 9th after school, consider giving your kids some extra cash or taking your kids directly to the Wisdom loop that day to get some delicious shaved ice to cool down! From 2:30-4pm, Fluffy Sno will bring their Shaved Ice Truck to offer some sweet treats to our students and staff! PTO will get a percentage of the sales that day! |
We have a great start: Jamaica, Romania, Singapore, China, India, USA, Caribbean (Dominican Republic), Canada, Korea, Taiwan, N. Pakistan, South Africa, Japan, & Vietnam! Bu
We’d love more variety—you don't even have to be from the region you choose! Let's make it fun for the kids to learn about the world.

Unfortunately over the past few weeks parents and traffic volunteers have noticed a surge in dangerous double parking and vehicle abandonment. This is a reminder that DOUBLE PARKING IS PROHIBITED.
Traffic volunteers cannot manage all the vehicles on the roads so they are requesting that concerned parents please take the time to file complaints when they see dangerous and illegal driving behaviour at pick-up and drop-off.
