Bringhurst Newsletter #16

Principal's Message

There has been lots of events happening at Bringhurst lately!
Next week, we are looking forward to our grade-level concert that our students and Mrs. Sampson have worked so hard on preparing for the last few months. We welcome parents to come enjoy the concert by standing in the back of the MUR. Kind reminder that we do NOT accommodate younger siblings during this event.

State Testing is also coming up. We want students to be able to show all the things that they've learned this school year. Don't underestimate the power of good sleep and proper nutrition to prepare the brain for some hard work! We know our students will do great because they are GREAT!

Be kind, be safe, be responsible. Be your blazer best!

Blazer best week!

This week was Be Your Blazer Best Week!
Our Blazers spent the week doing their very best to truly showcase our school’s core values: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Responsible. Each day featured a different dress theme to celebrate what it means to be a Blazer here at Bringhurst. Teachers also joined in on the fun and participated alongside students, helping to make the week even more memorable and engaging for everyone. Special feature of Mr. Garrido, our art teacher, for his commitment to dress the theme. Thank you to all of our Blazers for making this week such a positive celebration of our school community!

Bringhurst was fortunate to have Ms. JoJo with us this year to provide students with extra opportunities to participate in a choir. Ms. JoJo generously donated her time, love for music and a big check for our Bringhurst music program. What a beautiful Nightingale concert hosted at the Hayward theatre!

Thank you PTO for inviting author Lakshmi Srinivasan to talk about her book "The Cyber Squad Chronicles: The Crowned Glitch" on Digital Citizenship. Students learned valuable lessons on how to spot common dangers online and what to do with them.

Kids Against Hunger Service Learning Project

On Thursday, May 14th Lila Bringhurst students will be participating in the KIDS AGAINST HUNGER Service Learning Project where 2nd-5th grade students will be packing meals for those in need. TK-1st grade students will cheer them on and have the opportunity to draw/write messages to be taped onto the packed meals.

To make this a successful service learning project for our students, we are hoping that each student will be able to raise and/or donate at least $10 to cover the cost of the food and materials. We will have an ice bucket challenge if we reach our donation goal and the student(s) who raises the most money, they will be able to pour ice water onto either Mrs. Hsu or Mrs. Black!

In addition, we will need at least 50 parent volunteers to assist with helping Bringhurst students pack these meals. Volunteers will be expected to stay for the entire morning event. More details to come.

Changes to Volunteer Requirements

Starting next school year, FUSD volunteers are required to be mandated reporters. This means all volunteers will need to complete Mandated Reporter Certification through Keenan Safe Schools. We will be accepting all volunteers 3 times a year. This information will be given out again next year in our back-to-school newsletter.

PBIS Parent Involvement

PBIS Parent Volunteers Needed
As we continue to grow our PBIS efforts this year, we are looking to add parent involvement to our PBIS team! On the third Wednesday of each month our team meets to discuss plans for PBIS at Bringhurst. We would need parent input for the first 15-20 minutes of each meeting (1:45 - 2:00pm). We would share what issues we are seeing on campus and have you brainstorm with the team on how to address these needs at school. Please let us know if you're interested!

PTO Update

PTO Officer Team 2026/27 Nomination Deadline - 4/19

  • The Bringhurst PTO runs on parent and teacher volunteers. As a non-profit entity, donations are fundraised and managed to improve our community, through improving our club offerings and providing much needed resources to our teachers and students.
  • There are parents who've volunteered to fill some officer roles for next year but we would like to invite anyone interested in a role to submit your name, to either share the role or run against the incumbent. We are showing the list to indicate the positions we desperately need people to fill in, and not to dissuade anyone from running for any position.
Please nominate here by Sunday 4/19 - https://forms.gle/X6mN4s6VoSbHjWQz9
