Bringhurst Newsletter #4

October 3, 2025

Principal's Message

Can you believe it's already October! The weather is cooling down, and we are starting to get rain. We have included some friendly reminders on our rainy day protocol below as we prepare for the upcoming seasonal change. Thank you to our traffic crew for showing up despite the rain. You are making a huge difference in our community and we appreciate you!

October is also Anti-Bullying Month. This year, our theme is "Stand up, Speak out, and Stop Bullying." Through out the month, our counseling team have prepared a variety of activities around the school to raise awareness and teach skills of being an upstander. Being an anti-bully means we are being kind, accept and include others, and speak out when needed. Let's all work together to keep Bringhurst a safe learning environment for all!

Be kind, be safe, be responsible. Be your blazer best!

Halloween Parade

A flyer went out this week with information about our Halloween Parade.

Costumes Policy
  • Students may come to school wearing costumes, cultural clothes, or pajamas
  • No masks or weapons may be brought to school
  • All clothing must be school appropriate
  • Students may bring a change of clothes
  • Costumes should not interfere with their learning or learning of others
  • Any costume that would require adult help to take on and off should not be worn

TK/K will begin the parade at 8:20 am. Grade 1-5 will begin at 8:30am. We will slowly walk from the school buildings along the school fence and gates. Parents and guardians may watch from outside of the school gates on Wisdom Rd., Insight or Grimmer. Parents will NOT be able to watch from inside of the park or school campus.

Rainy Day Protocol

Help us remind students of these protocols to better prepare for unpredictable weather!

  1. Please encourage students to use their raincoats instead of their umbrellas to prevent any accidents.
  2. A reminder that Kindergarteners will NOT be able to use an umbrella if it rains during pick-up time as kids would be sitting too close to each other, so please prepare rain coats.
  3. Our closed campus policy is still in place despite the weather changes. You may instruct your child to walk to their classroom and out of the rain in the morning, there will be many adults to assist and supervise students.
  4. Our priority is safety. Kindly respect our traffic crew and their instructions as they help in the morning, rain or shine!

PBIS Parent Involvement

PBIS Parent Volunteers Needed
PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Support) is a team here at Bringhurst that helps to promote positive behavior by implementing systems (such as our Blazer Bucks) that support students' behavior needs. We were recognized last year for achieving silver status!

As we continue to grow our PBIS efforts this year, we are looking to add parent involvement to our PBIS team! Here is what volunteering may look like:

Attending PBIS Monthly Meetings
On the third Wednesday of each month our team meets to discuss plans for PBIS at Bringhurst. We would need parent input for the first 15-20 minutes of each meeting (1:45 - 2:00pm). We would share what issues we are seeing on campus and have you brainstorm with the team on how to address these needs at school.

Blazer Buck Store
We need volunteers to come to school consistently to fulfill orders for prizes that students have earned using our Blazer Bucks.

If you are interested in helping with either or both, please fill out the google form here.

Parent Teacher Conference

PTC will be held in the third week of October. Your classroom teacher will soon reach out for you to select a time to meet. This year we have decided to meet parents before the first trimester report card so that families and teachers can provide early interventions if needed and understand the progress of their student's academics and social-emotional learning.

If you are meeting with your teacher after school hours, you may walk through the gate without checking into the office. We will have our front gate open for easy access.

Lost and Found Announcements

IMPORTANT: our first donation of Lost and Found cart unclaimed items will be on Monday, 10/27/25, shortly after 8:15 am bell.

There will be no school on Friday, 10/24. Custodians will move ALL THREE carts outside the main school gate in the afternoon of Thursday, 10/23 - parents will have the entire 3-day weekend to look for their items before donation. Volunteers will try their best to move more items to the outside cart in the days leading up to donation, but please don’t wait until the last minute - the fuller the carts, the harder it is to find your belongings.

New this year: “Up for Grabs” period: on Monday 10/27 AM before 8:15am, parents and students are welcome to take any remaining unclaimed items that they may be able to use themselves. Everything left at that point will be discarded or donated after 8:15am bell. Volunteers will be unable to “hold” or look for any items for you.

Lice Memo

Fall and Spring time is a very common to see a rise of cases of head lice. Please refer to this Lice Advisory Memo for school protocols.

Message from P.E. Coaches

It is hard to believe that October is already coming to an end. You probably have already scheduled your conference with your child’s homeroom teacher. Because each Physical Education teacher has hundreds of students, we are not able to meet with each family via Zoom. If necessary, we are available during conference week to discuss any PE related questions or concerns you may have. To arrange a video conference, please reach out via email.

Walk and Roll - 10/8

  • Our school will be participating in International Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 8, 2025! This event is celebrated by schools across Alameda County and around the world each October to encourage students, families, and the community to use active and shared modes of transportation—such as walking, biking, rolling, or taking transit—to get to school.
  • Parents, we ask that you talk to your children about the importance of using these alternative transportation methods and encourage them to participate on the day of the event.
  • Please discuss safety, like wearing helmets and traffic awareness when walking. This conversation will help ensure that your child is prepared and excited to take part in this global event.
  • Please remember not to park, stop or block the bike lanes and crosswalks.
  • Call for Volunteers: We are looking for volunteers to help out on October 8th during morning drop off time. If you’re available to assist with guiding students and/or distributing materials/freebies, please join the Walk and Roll to School Day WhatsApp Group.  If you do not use Whatsapp, please email our coordinator for this event, Marisa at [email protected] so she can coordinate with you. Your help will be invaluable in making this event a success!

trunk or treat

Trunk-or-Treat - 10/23 - Call for Volunteers and Donations!

  • It’s that Spooky Time of the year! One of our favorite events of the year where kids get to enjoy trick-or-treat in a safe and fun environment with their friends and family, we cannot do this without parent support. Please kindly sign up to volunteer!
  • Also we would greatly appreciate any donation for treats and small toys. Please kindly drop-off in the LBES main office, or have your little blazer pass onto their teachers.

Next Dine-Out-To-Donate - Jen’s Doughjo

  • Thank you for your support for the Panda Express DOTD!
  • Our next DOTD is featuring a local business: Jen’s Doughjo! The fundraising will be throughout the month of October. Please see flyer for more details!
