CAASPP Testing

Our 3-6 grade students have started the state mandated testing (CAASPP).  All classrooms continue to be busy learning about a vast array of topics.   It is important that all students arrive at class on time each day. We appreciate you not scheduling appointments during class time or planning vacation/out of town trips for the duration of this testing window.

Volunteers Needed!

Brookvale will have three vacancies in the upcoming school year on the School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee.  Please consider nominating yourself for this position.  The SSC/ELAC monitors the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) Plan. This group also oversees the spending of certain funds provided through LCAP.  Contact Mrs. Elliott to let her know you want to be part of the School Site Council/ELAC team for the 2024-2025 School Year.

Student Placement Input

The placement of students in each class for next year is decided by the administration and the faculty. Student placement is a complex process with many variables that must be considered. The following criteria are used in order to accomplish the placement of students: academic needs, behavior needs, program needs, ethnic balance, student language needs, and gender balance. We will not accept requests for specific teachers. If you would like to give input regarding your child’s educational needs, you must use the online Student Placement Consideration Form.  This link is for Brookvale ONLY. Other schools have their own form. Letters will not be accepted. Parents must understand that only the educational needs of the student will be considered. Online forms must be submitted by April 25, 2024 at 4:00 pm. No forms received after this date will be considered. If you cannot access the link above, please email Mrs. Elliott.

Residency Verification Forms Due!

On January 29th  you will receive an email from Informed K12 regarding the required annual Residency Verification.  The email will include a form that includes your student’s information.  You will need to upload two current proofs of residency (within the previous 30 days.)  Please do not upload your ID/driver’s license as this is not considered an acceptable proof of residency.

Once you sign and submit the form, it will go directly to your child’s current school of attendance for processing.

If you do not see the email, please check your SPAM/junk email folders.

You may also bring two proofs of your current address to the Brookvale School office to prove your residency and save your child’s spot for next year.

Peralta District Reflections Award of Merit and Excellence

Congratulations to Angela from Grade 2.  Her Dance entry for the PTA Reflections Art Contest has moved to the National level!  Way to Go Angela!  Congratulations!

Attendance Counts!

This is the time of year when winter weather takes a toll on school attendance. Road conditions and rain can make it hard to get your children to school. So can illnesses such as colds, flu, fevers, earaches, and COVID-19.

These absences, even if they are excused, break the routine of daily attendance which can impact students feeling connected and engaged in learning. Please consider these steps to keep your children healthy and in school this winter.

1.   Develop back up plans for getting your children to school. Check who can give your children a ride if you can’t take them, or form a “walking school bus” to walk to school with other families.

2. If your children get sick or you are concerned about Covid or the flu, talk to your child’s medical provider or the school nurse for advice.

3.  Stomach pain and headaches can be signs of anxiety and may not be reasons for keeping a child home. If you feel that anxiety or stress is playing a role, talk to your child’s teacher, the school nurse, counselor or your medical provider about how best to support your child.

4. Encourage children to wash their hands before and after eating and after using the restroom.

5.   Encourage healthy habits such as getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, drinking fluids and getting exercise.

Let us know how we can help you. If you’re having trouble, need resources or advice, please call us at 510-797-5940 and ask to speak with Jennifer Mehta or Roxanna Ramirez-Mitchell.

Thank you for partnering with us!
