Welcome to the 2025-2026 Academic Year!

Welcome Leitch Families! My name is Lizaday Rancap-Perez and I am honored to serve a third year as principal for this school community.

Leitch takes advantage of multiple ways to keep our families informed. There will be a monthly newsletter that will be sent to you through email. Occasionally we will use an automated phone call system to remind you of important events. As we begin the new school year please make sure to read through this newsletter and all other documents that are sent home. Many questions that you may have throughout the year can be found in the monthly newsletters.

At Leitch Elementary, our hardworking teachers and support staff want nothing but the best for our students. We believe all our students can excel and we will work hard this year to ensure each child gets a high quality education in a safe nurturing environment.

We look forward to a successful year!

First Week of School: 8/12-8/15

Leitch Arrival & Dismissal Procedures – First Week of School

For everyone’s safety, only Leitch students are allowed on campus during school hours.

First 3 Days of School:
  • Parents may walk their child to the classroom door.
  • Once your child enters the room, please exit campus so we can start the school day.
  • Use these days to help your child find their classroom and practice your pick-up meeting spot (examples: valet lane, front courtyard, behind yellow lines in patio, gates near Room 14).

Starting Friday, August 15:
  • Students will walk to the playground on their own.
  • Parents must wait in the designated areas behind the yellow lines (valet lane, front courtyard, or gates).
  • Playground supervision begins at 7:55 AM; students may not arrive before this time.
  • At dismissal, teachers will walk students to the waiting areas.

TK/K Families: Your child’s teacher will provide specific arrival and dismissal instructions.

Here’s a campus entrances map for your reference: [Insert Map Link/Attachment]

Thank you for helping us keep Leitch safe!

Important Attendance Reminder: First Day of School

Attendance Calls
If your student is going to be absent from school you must notify the school office by 9:00am on the day of the absence. You should call the school at (510) 657-6100, and press 7 which is the attendance mail box.

Slowly and clearly spell your child's first and last name, room number or teacher and the reason for the absence. The mail box is accessible 24 hours a day. If the school does not receive a call then the absence will be recorded as an unexcused absence. You may also e-mail Ms. Seema Suthar at [email protected]t with this information.

Parking at School

Parking Reminders
  • Staff parking lots are for employees only (marked “Staff Only”).
  • Do not park in the lots across the street or in the housing lot next to the school—these are private property and vehicles may be towed.
  • Park only in designated street areas or in the lot at Fernald St. & Warren Ave.
  • We encourage you to use our valet drop-off/pick-up at 7:55 AM and 2:26 PM.

Drop Off and Pick Up

James Leitch Elementary & Fremont Police – Working Together for Safety

To keep drop-off and pick-up safe and smooth, please remember:
  • Valet Lane is closed during the day for TK/K parents.
  • Enter from Fernald St., pull forward, and have your child ready on the passenger side with their backpack, lunch, and water bottle.
  • Wait for a staff/volunteer to help your child in or out of the car.
  • Exit slowly and turn right on Warren. No left turns—go to the stop sign for U-turns.
  • You may park on the street and walk your child if you prefer.

Thanks for helping keep our school community safe!

Crosswalks and Sidewalks

Crosswalks
Please cross at marked crosswalks to stay safe. Crossing Fernald Street anywhere else, especially between parked cars, is very dangerous.

Sidewalks
Always use the sidewalks around the school. Walking through the staff parking lot behind parked cars is risky for both students and parents.

School Breakfast/Lunches

Free Meals for All Leitch Students
All students can get free breakfast and lunch at school—no forms or income requirements.

  • Breakfast: Served daily in the MUR starting at 7:35-8:05 AM. Students eat inside, supervised, and then go to recess (TK/K will be walked to class). Parents/guardians are not allowed inside the MUR starting 8/15/25.
  • Lunch: Each morning, students will be asked if they want school lunch (meat or vegetarian). Please talk with your child about your preference. TK/K students may get lunch but must eat off campus with a parent/guardian (no lunch supervision).
