Hello Parkmont Families and Community,
It is hard to believe that fall has started and October is here. It seems summer is holding on by giving us temperatures in the high nineties and on a few days over 100 degrees.
At Parkmont our priority is student safety. Our PE teacher, Ms. Lambert, has written an article detailing our PE plan for very hot days. You can help us on these hot days ensuring students are wearing appropriate loose and light clothing, encourage students to stay in the shade when at recess, and most importantly drink lots of water. Teachers will be modifying exercise intensity, lessons, and locations based on the weather and needs of the students.
My thanks to all of the parents that were able to attend the 4th/5th Parent Lunch on Thursday September 26, 2024. This year we will continue the monthly “Lunch with your Child” event on the last Friday of each month. For the month of October, it will be the 2nd / 3rd Grades turn for Lunch with Parents. The Lunch will be on October 25th at 11:35.
We encourage you to join our PTA. For more information please review the following slides 24-25 PTA Information
Also, this month we will be celebrating our annual Panther Prowl. Has your child signed up for Panther Prowl yet? Panther Prowl Flyer.
Let’s all join this amazing community event.
Thank you for continuing to work as a vital team member in your child’s success. We encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher should you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Walter Lewis, Proud Parkmont Principal

PE Policy and Information (Cal 200, Weather)
|
|
|
Physical Education allows students to engage in physical activity while learning about fitness and body movement. Regular exercise improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and enhances flexibility. In addition physical activity has been shown to boost academic performance, improve concentration, boost memory retention, and enhance problem-solving skills. Physical Education helps reduce stress, anxiety, depression and improves mood, self esteem and interpersonal relationships.
The State of California requires that students receive 100 minutes of Physical Education a week. These minutes are fulfilled by taking part in our Physical Education classes led by Ms. Lambert, our Physical Education Specialist, and also by participating in Cal 200, a program led by our classroom teachers. Both are a fundamental part of our students' physical education and the development of a healthy lifestyle.
Parkmont's Physical Education department follows the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) guidelines for extreme weather conditions. Weather conditions are always considered when students are participating in P.E. and modifications to lessons, exercise and location of playing areas are part of these adjustments.
Students in extreme weather conditions will most likely participate in PE indoors. In these conditions, multiple water breaks are always provided and students are asked to exercise as tolerated.
As suggested in the Physical Education Back to School Night Packet, please check the weather and make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the day's weather, especially if they are participating in P.E. Even though the majority of the P.E. lessons taught by Ms. Lambert are held indoors, the warm up and conditioning portion is typically held outside.

|
|
|
It’s that time of year again! The preparations for the Candle Lighters’ Ghost House are
underway and Parkmont Elementary’s Night is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd. Come and see some of our Parkmont staff members and our Principal, Mr. Lewis, dressed up as Wizards, Witches, and Good Fairies! Will you recognize us! We are happy to support this wonderful local non-profit service organization.
Candle Lighters is dedicated to raising funds solely through the annual Ghost House for non-profit groups and community-based projects in the Tri-City Community (Fremont, Newark & Union City). Open during the last two weeks of October and based in a historical 19th century Carriage House, the Ghost House is a wonderful family-oriented event for all ages! In fact, 2024 is the 55th Annual Ghost House!
Check out their website www.candlelighters.com to see a list of just a few of their funding recipients and for other information that may be of interest to you. What Parkmont student wouldn’t be excited to see several of their teachers or their principal stroll the grounds as a witch, a warlock, or a good fairy?
Ghost House will be open from October 12th through October 30th Mondays – Thursdays from 6-9, Fridays from 6-10, most Saturdays from 3-10 (2-10 on October 19 and 26) and Sundays from 3-9. Our Parkmont Staff hopes to see you and your family there on 10/23!

Halloween Parade and Costume Information:
|
his year we will continue the annual Parkmont Halloween Parade tradition.
While both AM and PM Transitional Kindergarten will all report for the AM section (8:00am-11:20am), Kindergarten students have a regular day schedule with dismissal at 1:32 pm and 1st-5th grade students are on an early release schedule. Release time is 1:09 for 1st-3rd grades and 1:13 for 4th-5th grades.
Costumes: Students will be permitted to wear their Halloween costumes for the parade, but not the entirety of the day. Students will change out of their costumes and into school day clothes at the 9:40am recess. As always, costume props, weapons (or resemblance to weapons), and full face masks are not permitted. Costumes should also follow the FUSD Dress Code. For instance; midriff/chest should not be visible, straps on tops must be 3-finger width, and pants/shorts should be mid-thigh or longer in length.
Parade: Parkmont will follow the parade route that takes us from the front of campus, down Parkside Dr., to the community Parkmont Pool, and back down Parkside drive to return to campus (rough map below). We hope that parents/families, and neighbors will line the street to watch all of the costumes go by. Parents will not be permitted on campus, but can stand near the pick-up/drop off lane, at the front of the school or along Parkside Dr. if desired. The parade will begin at approximately 8:30am. Please do not put chairs in front of a driveway or in a household lawn that does not belong to you. We would like to be courteous to our Parkmont neighbors.

We love and really appreciate our school volunteers! Please remember that all FUSD school volunteers are required to be cleared through the Civicore approval process each year. You may start that process now so you are cleared and “ready to go” when a volunteer opportunity that you are interested in arises.
This link is for the FUSD website “ Volunteer Opportunities” page. Please click the “Volunteer Opportunities - Civicore” button to begin the clearance process.
