For October, there’s so much to celebrate!
Several weeks ago, we had the opportunity to present to the School Board about all the wonderful things happening at Parkmont. A huge thank-you goes out to our amazing student presenters, dedicated staff members, PTA representatives, Parkmont community members, and spirited cheerleaders. The Superintendent, Board Members, and audience were all incredibly impressed with Parkmont’s many strengths and the energy of our school community.
October is the perfect month to get involved. We have many events coming up — next week includes our Earthquake Drill, an English Language Advisory Committee meeting, and our big event, the Panther Prowl!
Following the Panther Prowl, we’ll begin our parent-teacher conferences. These are scheduled a bit earlier this year and offer a valuable opportunity for families and staff to partner together — celebrating student strengths and ensuring every child’s success.
Autumn is such a wonderful time of year. Our character trait for the month is Respect, focusing on how our words and actions demonstrate care for one another. We’re working with students to practice mutual respect — treating others the way we wish to be treated — an essential quality that makes our school community strong and compassionate.
Let’s have a great autumn together, Parkmont!

Hello Parents,
This month, our School Counseling program is focusing on developing a Growth Mindset—the understanding that abilities and intelligence can grow through effort, practice, and perseverance. I invite families to watch my Counselor Video (click to open) to learn more about this important concept.
One meaningful way to encourage a growth mindset at home is through the feedback you give your child. Here are some examples:
- Instead of "You’re so smart!", you can say “I can see how hard you worked on that!”
- Instead of “That’s wrong—be more careful next time,” you can say “Mistakes help you learn—let’s figure out what happened and try something different”

Halloween Parade and Costume Information:
This year we will continue the annual Parkmont Halloween Parade tradition.
While both AM and PM Transitional Kindergarten will all report for the AM section (8:00am-11:20am), Kindergarten has a regular day schedule and will dismiss at 1:32PM. 1st-5th grade students are on an early release schedule. Release time is 1:09 for 1st-3rd grades and 1:13 for 4th-5th grades.
Costumes: Students will be permitted to wear their Halloween costumes for the parade, and they may wear them at school for the day with no face masks or weapons of course. (To clarify: Face masks may be worn during the parade ONLY as long as your child can see clearly through the mask. Weapons that go along with costumes are NOT permitted at school at any time.) Costumes should also follow the FUSD Dress Code. For instance; midriff/chest should not be visible, straps on tops must be 3-finger width, and pants/shorts should be mid-thigh or longer in length.
Parade: Parkmont will follow the parade route that takes us from the front of campus, down Parkside Dr., to the community Parkmont Pool, and back down Parkside drive to return to campus (rough map below). We hope that parents/families, and neighbors will line the street to watch all of the costumes go by. Parents will not be permitted on campus, but can stand near the pick-up/drop off lane, at the front of the school or along Parkside Dr. if desired. The parade will begin at approximately 8:40am. Please do not put chairs in front of a driveway or in a household lawn that does not belong to you. We would like to be courteous to our Parkmont neighbors.
(If you do not want your child to participate, please let your child’s teacher know. )

Our PTA does amazing work to support ALL students at Parkmont. Our PTA hosts events for our entire community, provides funding to assist with classroom needs, and provides volunteers for our many activities and events. Let's all join this wonderful organization as part of the membership drive.

We love and really appreciate our school volunteers! Please remember that all FUSD school volunteers are required to be cleared through the Civicore approval process each year. You may start that process now so you are cleared and “ready to go” when a volunteer opportunity that you are interested in arises.
This link is for the FUSD website “ Volunteer Opportunities” page. Please click the “Volunteer Opportunities - Civicore” button to begin the clearance process.
- If you already have a CiviCore account from last year, please log in and update it as soon as possible. Be sure to include your child’s current grade and teacher and upload a copy of your photo ID.
- If you plan to drive for any field trips this school year, you must also complete the Transportation and Insurance section of the application. This requires uploading a copy of your current auto insurance binder (your insurance company can email you this document if needed).
Thank you for taking care of this early so you’re ready to join us in the classroom, on field trips, and at school events!
