Panther News and Updates

Hello Parkmont Panther Families,

May is a vibrant month filled with celebration, reflection, and momentum as we head toward the end of the school year.

Across cultures and communities, this time of year is rich with meaningful holidays and traditions, including May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day and Memoprial Day to name a few.

Each offers a wonderful opportunity to honor cultural heritage and to show gratitude for the people who support us every day.

As we near the end of the school year, we encourage families to continue helping motivate students to stay focused, finish strong, and take pride in their learning and behavior.

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTA for their support of our recent Neon Dance Party! The energy, joy, and school spirit were truly unforgettable, and we are grateful for the time and effort that made it such a success for our students.

At Parkmont, we are especially focusing on our character trait of Integrity - making honest choices, doing the right thing even when no one is watching, and showing respect in all we do. Thereare several ways to reinforce integriuty in our kids; model integrity at home, talk about real life choices, reinforce honesty over perfection, and encourage responsibility., All of these things will certainly help students see integrity as an important trait.

May is always a busy and exciting month—filled with learning, celebrations, and growth. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students thrive at Parkmont.

Warmly,

Walt Lewis, Proud Principal

Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4-8

Hello Parkmont Panther Families,

Starting on Monday, May 4th we will be celebrating teacher appreciation week. Our PTA is working hard to make this week special for all of the educators here at Parkmont Elementary.

This flyer descriubes all the great events and activities happening for teacher appreciation. Teacher Appreciaiton Flyer May 4-8.

There is ana ctivity for your child each day of next week to show their appreciation. Let's show all of our wonderful educators our appreciation.

Student Safety Reminder

Safety is our number one priority at Parkmont Elementary. Recently, we’ve noticed an increase in younger siblings accompanying students onto campus during arrival and dismissal times. We love that our future Panthers are excited to be part of the school community and enjoy seeing their older siblings!

However, some of our youngest visitors are moving through areas with large groups of students, which can create unsafe situations. With so many students on campus, younger children can easily be bumped into, knocked over, or injured.

To help keep everyone safe, we ask that all younger siblings remain with an adult in the designated waiting areas before and after school.

Thank you for your partnership in helping us maintain a safe environment for all of our Parkmont Panthers.

Lunch Drop Off reminder

We understand that there are times when families may need to drop off lunch or other items for their child. For your convenience, we have placed a designated table outside of the office for these deliveries.

Please label all items clearly with your child’s name and leave lunches, water bottles, and other materials on the table.

We’ve noticed that some adults are waiting to greet students or personally hand off items. While we appreciate the care behind this, it makes it difficult for staff to maintain proper supervision when students are called away.

To ensure student safety and smooth operations, we ask that all items be dropped off at the table and parents then exit the campus. We trust our students to check for and pick up their belongings.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us keep our campus safe and organized.

CAASPP Testing

Our 3rd through 5th grade students will be taking the SBAC/CAST state assessments this month. These assessments serve several important purposes, including monitoring student progress, evaluating program effectiveness, and providing information about your child’s progress toward meeting state standards.

You should have already received a letter with your child’s specific testing dates. As a reminder, students perform best when they have a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast.

Please also make every effort to have your child arrive on time on testing days. If a student arrives after testing has begun, they may need to wait until a testing session is complete before joining their class.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students succeed. We are very proud of our Panthers and want to give them every opportunity to do their best!

Neon Dance Party

Our Parkmont Panthers lit up the night at the Neon Dance Party on Friday, April 24th! For two glowing hours, students danced under dazzling lights, grooved to upbeat music, and filled the room with energy and excitement.

The dance floor was electric—but let’s be honest, the snack table may have stolen the spotlight!

A huge, heartfelt thank-you goes out to our incredible PTA for bringing this radiant event to life. Special appreciation to PTA President Anna Chen, along with our amazing committee chairs, Parita Balwani and Sandheep Navaratnaraja, whose hard work made the night shine so brightly. And of course, a big cheer for DJ John Quiinne, who kept the beats pumping and the crowd moving all evening long.

It was truly a neon-tastic celebration—full of laughter, light, and Panther pride!

Civicore Volunteer Registration

We love and really appreciate our school volunteers! Please remember that all FUSD school volunteers are required to be cleared through the Civicore approval process each year. You may start that process now so you are cleared and “ready to go” when a volunteer opportunity that you are interested in arises.

This link is for the FUSD website “Volunteer Opportunities” page. Please click the “Volunteer Opportunities - Civicore” button to begin the clearance process.

  • If you already have a CiviCore account from last year, please log in and update it as soon as possible. Be sure to include your child’s current grade and teacher and upload a copy of your photo ID.
  • If you plan to drive for any field trips this school year, you must also complete the Transportation and Insurance section of the application. This requires uploading a copy of your current auto insurance binder (your insurance company can email you this document if needed).
Thank you for taking care of this early so you’re ready to join us in the classroom, on field trips, and at school events!
