Panther News and Updates
Hello Parkmont Community,

On January 27th, we celebrated this year’s 100th day of school! This milestone is an exciting time, especially for our younger elementary students, who enjoyed a variety of special activities. But did you know our fifth graders will also be celebrating their 1,000th day of school?

On average, students spend 180 days in school each year. From kindergarten through fourth grade, that adds up to 900 days. By the 100th day of fifth grade, students reach 1,000 days—a significant achievement! Whether it's 100 days or 1,000 days, each day represents important steps toward growth, learning, and discovery.

Our students demonstrate dedication, curiosity, and resilience every day, proving that hard work truly pays off. These amazing qualities are nurtured by our Panther teachers and staff, and we couldn’t be prouder of our Panthers all year long!

February also brings opportunities to celebrate the rich diversity of our Parkmont community. Black History is a vital and integral part of American history that should be honored year-round. However, February, recognized as Black History Month, gives us a dedicated time to highlight the remarkable contributions, achievements, and stories of African Americans.

Throughout this month, we’ll explore African American history, celebrate notable figures, and reflect on accomplishments that have profoundly shaped our society.

Additionally, we’re excited to celebrate the Lunar New Year on January 29th. This year marks the Year of the Snake, a symbol of wisdom, grace, and transformation. It’s a wonderful time to embrace cherished traditions and new beginnings with our community.
Together, let’s honor our milestones, celebrate diversity, and continue building a strong, supportive Parkmont family.

Variety Show:
Dear Parents,
Thank you for your unwavering support and enthusiasm in fostering the talents of your children for this year’s Parkmont Elementary Variety Show.
The response this year has been extraordinary, with nearly 125 submissions.

To ensure fairness and give every application the attention it deserves, we will be holding auditions to select the best acts. Due to the high volume of submissions, auditions will take place on February 4th and 5th, 2025. The audition schedule will be shared soon. In the meantime, please review the audition rules and guidelines below to help your child prepare.

Audition Guidelines:
  1. Introduction: Keep introductions under 30 seconds, including the participant’s name and a brief description of the act. The act itself should not exceed 90 seconds.
  2. Attire: Participants should be appropriately dressed for their audition.
  3. Punctuality: Arrive at least 10 minutes early for the scheduled audition time.
  4. Parent Supervision: A parent or guardian must accompany their child at all times in the Multi-Utility Room (MUR).
  5. Instruments: A piano will be provided during auditions. Participants using other instruments should bring their own.
  6. Sheet Music and Lyrics: Sheet music or printed lyrics are not allowed during auditions. Participants performing musical instruments, singing, or speech must do so from memory. Additionally, please ensure that the lyrics of the songs are appropriate for a school setting.
  7. Audio Submissions: If participants are using background music for their act, please share the audio file by January 31st, 2025, with the Parkmont Elementary Variety Show team at parkmontvarietyshow@gmail.com. Be sure to include your child’s name and the title of their act in the subject line to avoid any confusion.
We wish all participants the very best of luck as they prepare to showcase their incredible talents!

Founders Day
Founder's Day
Founders’ Day (February 17) is when we celebrate the legacy and work of our PTA founders—Alice McLellan Birney, Phoebe Apperson Hearst and Selena Sloan Butler—to better the lives of every child in education, health and safety. It is a time to reflect and take pride in our achievements, and renew our commitment to be a:
  • powerful voice for all children;
  • relevant resources for parents; and
  • strong advocate for public education.

Founder's day for our school is on 02/18/2025. On this day we honor our volunteers, teachers and administrators - without whom our PTA cannot function.

Special awards are awarded to people who have contributed to our PTA greatly. We have created a nomination form to obtain input from our school community.

Please provide your nominations by filling out the form below. Form closes on Tuesday, Feb 3rd 2025.

Centerville PTSA Board
5th Grade Parents:
Centerville is beginning to plan for next year's PTSA which includes elections for new board members. Centerville is actively looking for parents interested in serving on the Centerville PTSA board. Interested parents can email me or our current PTSA president Momina Nair at momina.dv8@gmail.com. We are looking for President, Treasurer, and Secretary positions.
Volunteers and Field Trip Assistance
LOOKING TO VOLUNTEER OR ATTEND A FIELD TRIP WITH YOUR CHILD'S CLASS?
We love and really appreciate our school volunteers! Please remember that all FUSD school volunteers are required to be cleared through the Civicore approval process each year. You may start that process now so you are cleared and “ready to go” when a volunteer opportunity that you are interested in arises.

This link is for the FUSD website “Volunteer Opportunities” page. Please click the “Volunteer Opportunities - Civicore” button to begin the clearance process.
