Welcome to Mission Valley
Welcome to Mission Valley Elementary, one of 28 elementary schools within the Fremont Unified School District. Located on the southeast side of San Francisco Bay in the beautiful city of Fremont we are between San Jose and Oakland in Alameda County. We are in close proximity to several universities and BART. Mission Valley Elementary earned the honor of being named a California Distinguished School in 2023, 2020, 2018, 2014, 2010, and 1998.
Our vision is to unite parents, educators, and the community to motivate and prepare students to be lifelong learners, problem solvers, and responsible citizens. We have created a positive, child-centered learning environment for all students through the cooperative efforts of parents, staff, students, and community members. There is an FUSD counselor on campus five days a week to support all students.
Our diverse student population of 400 is approximately 75 percent Asian, 8 percent Hispanic, 4 percent White, 3.5 percent multiple races, 2 percent Filipino, and 3 percent African-American. Over 17 percent of our students are English Learners, 16 percent are students with disabilities, and 25 percent are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Throughout the year, many cultural events are celebrated in the classrooms and with our school community.
The vital partnership we share with our parents and community enhances the learning experiences of both students and staff. Our Mission Valley School Association (MVSA) parent group is our greatest supporter. Through the annual membership drive and Jog-A-Thon fund-raiser, MVSA has been able to provide technology in the classrooms, classroom supplies, enrichment programs, and support our computer lab.
In addition to the core curriculum, special programs for students include three Special Day Classes (SDC), Gifted and Talented Education integration (GATE), School Site Council (SSC), English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), lunchtime intramural sports, enrichment activities, Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum, The Growth Mindset, and student leadership opportunities. Through Proposition 28 funds we are able to provide art classes to TK-5th grade students during the school day as well as arts and choir programs after school. All of these programs have resulted in positive student behavior and high student achievement. At Mission Valley Elementary, we are proud of our programs and learning environment, which enhance self-esteem and student success. This is accomplished by including students in all activities at all grade levels. If you wish additional information about Mission Valley Elementary, please visit our website.
