3.1 Superintendent Search Process

Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) Superintendent CJ Cammack has notified the Board of  Trustees that he anticipates departing his position with FUSD at the end of the 2023-24 school year. Mr. Cammack will become superintendent of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) as of July 1, 2024, pending final action and approval by the SRVUSD Board of Education May 14, 2024.

At its May 8, 2024 Board Meeting, the Board reached consensus to conduct search, enter into agreement with Leadership Associates and appoint President Zhang and Vice President Sweeney to serve as contacts to Leadership Associates to handle all search logistics.

The Board will hold a discussion with Leadership Associates search firm advisors to discuss the following:

1. Overview of search process (see Fremont - Board Initial Meeting Discussion Outline)
2. Board / search firm protocols during the search
3. Discussion of online survey (see Fremont Online - Survey)
4. Timeline for the search (see Fremont - Proposed Timeline and Input Sessions, Examples of Groups)
   • May 20-24 is the window for the input sessions, and the online survey will be open May 13 to 24.
   • Consensus was reached to recommend that members of CSEA, SEIU, FUDTA, FSMA provide their input to their representatives, who will have a designated meeting; all will be invited to the open forum.
   • Consensus was reached to combine partner/community groups.
   • Consensus was reached that the community/open forum would be in a hybrid model, and the date would be determined as soon as possible to begin promoting participation.
     • Open forum - will offer translation if requested.
     • Open forum will be May 20, 6-7pm.
   • Will hold Special Closed Session Meeting to review applications on June 14, 9am-12pm.
   • Will hold time for a Special Closed Session Meeting to interview candidates on both June 17 & 18.
   • Will tentatively schedule the vote to approve the contract, and then announce the appointment, on June 26.
5. Board input regarding desired qualities and characteristics of new superintendent
   • The Board discussed important qualities and information for potential candidates to know.
