Leadership Transition – Mr. Erik Burmeister Resigns as the Superintendent

Dear Fremont Unified Community,

The Board of Education has accepted Mr. Erik Burmeister’s resignation as Superintendent of Fremont Unified School District, effective February 12, 2025. We appreciate Mr. Burmeister’s leadership, which began on July 1, 2024, during a time when our district has faced numerous challenges. His contributions, including his role in the successful Measure M Facilities Improvement Bond campaign in November, will continue to have a lasting impact on our district.

The Board of Education remains fully committed to addressing the immediate and long-term challenges of managing a district of our size and complexity. As Board President Larry Sweeney stated, “We are committed to continuing to provide the very best educational experience for our students, employees, families, and community.”

The Board is now moving forward with the search for a new permanent superintendent and will ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed as this process progresses. We remain dedicated to making this transition as smooth as possible for everyone involved.

Sincerely,
Fremont Unified School District
