Superintendent’s Message: October 12, 2022

October 12, 2022

Dear FUSD Community,

Today the Irvington High School campus was briefly on a lockdown, which has been lifted and  all students and staff are safe and have returned to normal school operations.

The lockdown was called around 11:15am, after the Fremont Police Department received a phone call from an unknown individual indicating that there was an active shooter on the Irvington High School campus. FPD and the Fremont Fire Department immediately sent units to secure our campus.

Our staff responded quickly to enter into a lockdown until we received clearance from the first responders.

FPD determined that this threat was unfounded and confirmed there was no threat to our campus and the lockdown was lifted within 40 minutes.

Unfortunately, false reports of school shootings were called into numerous police departments throughout the Bay Area and the state today, initiating lockdowns at a number of school campuses.

Despite these reports being bogus, the harm they cause is unacceptable, dangerous and real.

We extend our appreciation to the FPD, FFD and our site and District staff for their quick response at Irvington today. We regret the stress this experience placed on our staff, students and many in our community.

Sincerely,

CJ Cammack
Superintendent
