October 27, 2023

Dear Fremont Unified Community,

I love being out at school sites to see our incredible students and staff. This year I’ve been to many schools and events, with each visit refocusing my drive and direction to help Fremont Unified be the best place for students and staff. This week I enjoyed visits to Warm Springs and Leitch elementary schools, and last Friday night I had a great time watching the Kennedy Titans football team. Through the year, I aim to again visit each Fremont Unified site and program. Thank you to the educators and staff who open their classrooms and other spaces for these visits, and to everyone who reaches out with updates, concerns and suggestions to support our district’s continuous improvement.

Last week the California Department of Education released statewide 2022-23 results of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), along with rates of absenteeism. I am pleased that overall, our students are maintaining a high level of achievement, and the needs-responsive intervention support at each of our schools is supporting tremendous growth. Fremont Unified students have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels of academic performance and attendance rates, but I do not want to lose sight of the outstanding work of our educators and progress of our students in the wake of a truly unprecedented period in education. We continue to outpace districts in Alameda County and we exceed the average level of achievement across California.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in person or via livestream last week for our School Funding Presentations at Washington and Mission San Jose high schools. Feedback from attendees underscores the importance of Fremont Unified securing adequate funding to ensure students have access to modern facilities with excellent educators, nutritious meals, and a safe learning environment. Please visit our Events webpage to view recordings of each session and the presentation slides.

We are continuing to collect feedback on our community’s priorities for our funding and focus in the coming years. Please click here to join the conversation and help us plan for the sustained excellence of Fremont Unified.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff and schools.

Sincerely,

CJ Cammack
Superintendent
