English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

Each California Public School from Kindergarten through grade 12, with 21 or more English learners, must form a functional English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The purpose of the ELAC is to advocate for student English Learners and to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English learners as well as the School Site Council on the development of the SPSA (see School Site Council page for SPSA information).

ELAC reviews the school’s program for English learners, including the school’s needs assessment, reviewing the school’s annual language census, and makes efforts to increase parents' awareness of the importance of regular school attendance.  The committee may elect at least one member to the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC).
