Migrant Education
Program Goal
The goal of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a GED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.

Student IdentificationÂ
A student qualifies for the Migrant Education Program if he or she has moved across state or school district lines with a migrant parent or guardian to obtain temporary or seasonal employment in an agricultural, fishing, or food processing activity within the past three years. Services are provided to students from ages 3 to 22 (if the student has not graduated from high school).

Federal Legislation
The Migrant Education Program is reauthorized by Part C of Title I of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) that was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015. It was first introduced in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) and reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB).
Fremont Unified School District offers a variety of programs to our migrant families which could include:
- Parent Education meetings with free babysitting
- Preschool student and parent support
- Health and dental screening
- Summer enrichment
- College visits
- Information on community resources
- Support with meetings between parents, students, and schools
- Student advocacy
