Animals on Campus
Board Policy 6163.4 states, “in the interest of student and animal safety, live animals, insects, birds and/or reptiles are not permitted on District property and/or facilities during school hours, during school sponsored activities and when students are present…” The school principal is aware of the district requirements for special events involving live animals that are used in the instructional program. Guide dogs/service animals are permitted on District property for persons with disabilities. Therapy or companion animals including pets, are not service animals and are not covered by Americans with Disabilities Act so they cannot be brought on school campus. Service animals in training are also not allowed on District property. Law enforcement agencies will not be restricted by this Board Policy.
