Resources for Immigrant Families
Our Schools: Resources for Including Immigrant Families
(CDE Toolkit)
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are not permitted to enter school grounds without a judicial warrant. The Fremont Police Department does not assist with immigration enforcement, see the City of Fremont statement. FUSD will not share student or family information with ICE. Focus remains on ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and able to learn.
The City of Fremont is a compassionate sanctuary city, and Fremont Unified School District is a safe haven for all students. FUSD takes pride in its diversity, its community, and its schools.
At FUSD, we want to assure every family that they are welcome here, regardless of their immigration status. All students, including those who are undocumented or come from immigrant families, have the right to attend public school, participate in school activities, and receive a quality education without discrimination.Â
Under California law, school officials are not required to allow immigration agents to enter schools without a judicial warrant. Our campuses have controlled access - students and staff are safe.Â
Our Federal & State Programs Department also provides Immigrant Resources on their website, where you can learn more about your constitutional rights, what to do when encountering law enforcement regarding immigration, and access collections of additional resources.
Student Support Services can provide additional community immigration resources.
Red Card
The Immigrant Legal Resource Center’s (ILRC) Red Cards help people assert their rights and defend themselves in many situations, such as when ICE agents go to a home. All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution.
Cards are available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and 13 other languages. You may print your own card for easy reference.
