Extreme Heat Monitoring & Response

An alert bar will be present at the top of every webpage during an active situation affecting Fremont Unified students, staff and/or facilities.

Extreme Heat Overview

FUSD strives to provide a safe and healthy environment at school facilities for students, staff, and community members. FUSD’s Environmental Safety Board Policy and Administrative Regulation, established in 2020, outline the District’s response when current temperature and/or weather forecasts indicate a significant health risk.

Monitoring for Extreme Heat

FUSD will consult the National Weather Service (NWS) HeatRisk forecast and monitor local health advisories.

When the HeatRisk level is forecast to be particularly high, District staff will check these sites regularly to communicate updates to the sites.

Activity Restrictions

During school/work hours, FUSD will follow activity restriction guidelines for specified HeatRisk levels as outlined by the California Department of Public Health in the CDPH Health Guidance for Schools on Sports and Strenuous Activities During Extreme Heat.

Based on the HeatRisk level, the District will use the CDPH Heat Risk Grid (ver en español) to consider actions/modifications.

Further, California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) member schools will adhere to the CIF Heat Illness Prevention and Heat Acclimatization Policies as outlined in the CIF Extreme Heat and Air Quality Policy.
