The Dream Act is designed to allow undocumented students to attend college in the Golden State regardless of their legal status. Â It also allows undocumented students to apply and receive non-state funded scholarships for public colleges and universities as well as state-funded financial aid such as institutional grants, community college fee waivers, Cal Grants, and Chafee Grants.

Authored by Assembly Member Gil Cedillo (Los Angeles), became law through the passage of two Assembly Bills
AB 130 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria (California Education Code 68130.5(a)) to apply for and receive non-state funded scholarships for public colleges and universities.
AB 131Â allows students who meet AB 540 criteria to apply for and receive state-funded financial aid such as institutional grants, community college fee waivers, Cal Grant and Chafee Grant.
The application opens on October 1.
Students who are eligible for the Dream Act, do not need to complete the FAFSA.  If you are not sure if you should complete the Dream Act Application or the FAFSA, then go to the Dream Act page and choose "Start Application".  This will walk you through a series of questions to determine what application you should complete.  The California Dream Act website has all the information you will need to complete the application.  Go to www.caldreamact.orgÂ
